80s Trek, possibly gigantic

My commuter is back up and humming at a much cheaper price than I had initially feared so I started looking around on the CL again.

Unsure what tier of trek this is. I spot a sticker on the seat tube but cant make out type. I know trek tubeing ranged from hi-ten up to 531 and Columbus. It's been made a fixie and other than knowing its 80s by the st decal I'm in the dark.
Seller asking 70. I am interested in the frame but it may be too large. I am 6'2".
how much is this bad boy worth?
If I could turn it around for profit id be happy about that too.

Yup. Someone converted it to a commuter it looks like haha
I mean I'd be doing something similair. I'd put something closer to 40s on it though. I dont like the narrow road tires.

That would be great! It does look like a dead ringer for that model.
real shame the campy parts are stripped, but I suppose that's why the price is what it is.

It's got brake braze ons, does it have downtube shifter bosses? it also looks like the 850 mtb. Which is also pretty cool.

That bike looks like it should fit you perfectly for size.

Well the mtb is also a beauty so that would be cool also. Looks like the 850 is made of tange chromo but the spec doesnt say what grade. How is that tubeset conpate to the full 531 of the above model?
also anyone have an idea on value of eithier model?

I hope it has braze ons!
I know exactly what I'm putting on it if it does.

Also just noticed the seat post has the groves in it like in the catalog for the 640.
I'm thinking I've got a 640 here.
Guy says it has about 17 small chips with rust in them.
how much should I try and bargin down?
I'm thinking of aiming for $40?

That sticker on the ST just below the TT doesn't look like a 531 sticker (almost looks like a Tange sticker), which would rule out the 640.
Of course anyone could have put any sticker over the original so who knows?
$40.......buy it. You may get it for half that.

Edit to say the seat post has a quick release.........so maybe it is an 8 series.

At the $40 price point, its "Grab now study later". While you are pondering, someone else is buying it. Don't wait. Just make sure seat post and stem are not stuck.

oh yeah that's it.
How did it ride? I'm meeting the guy today.
if it's not too beat up and I can get it for less than asking I'll go for it, but I would love to hear a review from an owner.

A seller in my area has a nice-looking 560 for $450.

It's been sitting for a while, but I suspect $250 is about the most he will get, especially since it's Reynolds 501 and not 531. Appears to be in great shape though:

Yeah I am disappointed it's the 560 and not the other models mentioned, as far as a resale opportunity goes. However it may be a great fit for me. I've really enjoyed some hi-ten bikes and 501 is a step up from that, and as the saying goes "nothing beats a bike that fits".
I figure if I dont like it at worst I'll touch up the paint do some greasing and aim for $150, expecting $100 or so.
All of this is anticipating I get it for less than asking and that the condition isnt too rough.

Good thing you spotted that, I'm not certain I would have. Frame sounds worn out, even though some people insist that quality steel frames never wear out.
