Miele for value

I'm a little stumped for value on this one. It's a Miele Road "Road Issue" with Exage groupset. Owner claims not to have ridden it for a while and it seems in very good condition. I get that Miele doesn't have that great a following outside of Canada but asking anyway. I see similar frame for $100+ less but again it seems in very good condition. Seller seeking $400 Canadian (about $300 USD).

Looks in nice shape, but for me, the price is a little too high for an Infinity tubing framed bike.
I wouldn't call it a mistake to buy it, if you're tall and it fits you nicely, but I wouldn't make compromises to make it work.
(Oh, and it's missing a bar plug, don't ride it without both)
YMMV.

Price is high and I am not convinced that the fork is original.

Ok - still leaves one question - where does Exage fit in on the Shimano food chain? I thought Exage was Mountain bike material but I see references to Exage being Shimano 300 and then I see it being Shimano 500???? I looked on the Bay and found one listing for a complete used groupset ($199).

Ex Pres - I was seeking a value for a friend (I'm like Al Bundy - married with children so I have to seek out serious deals). I also have a friend who is looking for a nice bike so I am caught in the middle. I didn't know it was Infinity, would have assumed it was a step up so glad you caught that.

Blakcloud - There is a similar one though not quite as nice and not the same exact model for sale locally for $210 Canadian with the same forks so I think those forks were issue.

I've had a few Exage road bikes. The group is as good as 105.

The subject bicycle is a Miele Doral, circa 1989. I'm not sure about 1989, but in 1988 it was 12th in Miele's line of 14 road bicycles. In 1989, Shimano had 3 levels of Exage (Sport, Action and Motion), which ranked 4th through 6th in the Shimano's group hierarchy. The brakeset is clearly Exage Action but it may have mixed Exage components, as the rear derailleur appears to be Exage Sport. In general, these groups gave away little in performance to higher groups but the cost concessions were clearly visible when you started looking at weight, finish, amenities, etc. I'm not positive on the pedal identification, but they look like they may be Sampson clipless, which used a proprietary shoe cleat that is now obsolete.

As noted, the frame is Tange Infinity which was close to Tange #2 but in a more economical, seamed version. If the 1989 frame is the same as 1988, then it is Infinity only in the main triangle, with the forks and stays being hi-tensile steel. The fork is OEM. Full chrome forks without embossing were typical on Miele's entry level models of this era.

Regarding price, that is high for outside the Metro Toronto, especially this time of year. The asking price would be very close to the original MSRP.

A mid-range Miele like that would sell at about 300-350$can here in Montreal, but ''Vintage'' bike prices are ridiculously high here. Mid-Range Bianchi's, Colombus Cromor Marinoni's and Gardin's with mid-range groupsets often go for 400-500$. High end colombus SL Marinoni's go for 6-7-800$.

So price is a little high if you ask me, I'd wait for a better deal.
