Olmo. Worth it?

Here is one that stretches the budget. It catches my eye. I have been a fan of Olmos. But is it worth the price?

I've got an Olmo Competition with pantographed Campy Nuovo Record bits, circa 1982. Really nice bike.. and it's red, so you know that it's fast.

This CL Olmo isn't as nice... the Campy bits look more like Gran Sport or Victory. The tubing is a mid(?) level Columbus version. The Phil hubs are nice, though!
Overall, there are nicer ones.
As far as the value, I suppose it depends on what else is available.

Probably, red, classic brand, very cool. That being said, unicrown is a no go for me on this, that's just me.

$500 would be a good number for this imho.

Frankenbiked to the max with assorted lower level Campagnolo components spanning two decades. .1990s entry level frame with Columbus Gara (plain gauge CrMo). As noted, the only truly worthwhile items are the Phil Wood hubs. At that price, I'd definitely pass.

Clearly not the bike the seller is advertising-- that crank is not record.

I think even 500$ is too high. I don't think seller knows what they are talking about, and don't trust a word of the ad (though I would trust the pictures).

Selling I would expect 400$. I'd ask 500$, but not expect it, and wouldn't be shocked if the best offers were in the 350$ range. Frame and components (except for the wheels/hubs) are nothing special IMO. Nice enough, but it is a flat market and this bike is mid-range.

It does have 12 gears 6 x 2 and there are some Record components on it. He did outright lie with " Hand made 57-58 cm frame equipped with 12 speed fully Campagnolo Record components". But hey, it's CL, I expect sellers to lie so I'm never disappointed.

I always assumed that the reference to speeds meant the number of cogs in the cassette or freehub.

But you are right, in the “old days” a ten-speed bike was a bike with a 5 cog freehub and a dual chainring, thus 5X2=10 speeds.

You are also right about the remaining component description. Not very accurate and somewhat deceptive.

The last thing I want to be labeled as is a deceiver.

Me too. I seem to recall several threads in here with bikes in Houston on CL that should sell and they don't. This one will most likely sit for a good while.

I'm with ^^
The fork, Gara pipes and the mix say NO. I came across an ad for an old peugeot from a garage, rubbish photos, €50. It was a PY10 and I missed it (not my size so just as well). If you have 500 bucks to put on something special to you, you'll know when and what, just be patient.
