Hello, I have a 1991 Ochsner that I bought new in '92. I have sort of hybridized it lately but am thinking about returning it to a roadie. Stock it came with all Shimano 105 6 speed components, down tube index/gravity shifters, Mavic MA2 wheels, Cinelli handle bars/quill stem. It is a wonderful riding bike. Now I have Rigida wheels with 9 speed cassette and it works fine with the stock crankset and shifters, set to gravity. I do have to manually spread the stays to mount and remove the rear wheel as it is 130mm and original is 126. I have not cold set the frame but am considering that. Ochsner was an importer of many fine things from around the world. A very interesting person that was the importer of Campagnolo products into the USA among other things. The frames are well made, contracted from a builder, but are not very well known to the general public so they usually sell for a fair price. I have a Chrome Ochsner that I love.

That is one sweet Ochsner! Just gorgeous. What year is that bike?I have never seen another Ochsner in real life, only pictures. I think, but am not sure, that Oschner was a rider for Switzerland. It seems to me that I saw that awhile ago when doing research on my bike. Also, again not sure,, that the frames were imported and the bikes built in Chicago. Seeing your bike really makes my think hard about redoing mine. My frame does not show what tubing it is made of.

I am not sure about the racing information but Ochsner is an importer of things like fine chocolate and other gourmet items including wine and cutlery. At one time they were a huge supplier of Campagnolo small parts. I've never seen one of their bikes in person but I can't imagine they are anything but the best quality

Thank you! My bike does not say what tubing either and I am guessing early 1980`s. The Chrome ones were limited and according to Orthan Ochsner himself, made in Italy, but he could not remember by who. My guess is Cinelli because it has Cinelli logo lugs, fork , as well as bottom bracket. Whoever it was did an outstanding job. Mine weighs in at 20.4 pounds as it sits in the pictures, so I assume it is Columbus SL.

I picked these up from a guy on eBay who purchased them from an auction of Ochsner`s collection. Still new with tags. I can`t decide what one goes on the bike. I will let my rear end decide come spring. :)

Bianchigirl and Steve Whitlatch, thank you for the info. The saddles are way cool! I bought mine from a LBS in Ocean City, MD. I believe the list price was about $900 but they had lowered the price by $100 because it was from the previous year. Also, the head tube had a dent, which is still there, so they offered me another $100 off to take it home with me. I have never regretted that decision. I still love to ride it.

Congrats on your purchase. As you can tell from this thread you now have a very nice classic that is somewhat rare. Post some pix when you can, I would love to see them. 20014 Orbea Avant MD40 I purchased new in 2016.

I see in the above obit that is was Othons father that was the Swiss racer. Othon sounds like a guy it would have been nice to meet. How big are you and what size is the bike? Please do not forget to post pix. I would really like to see them. Thanks

27" rims are slightly bigger. Is the frame the correct size for you? Are you placing your foot on the pedal correctly? What kind of shoe are you wearing?

I sadly never stopped growing until I was too tall for even cheer and modern dance and therefore ride a 59 or 60. I am more of a masher than a spinner and consequently use 172.5 cranks. Several of my bikes therefore have a slight toe over lap but it is seldom a problem unles I trying to pedal through a tight turn at a super low speed. Check your foot placement and give it a chance as it is.

Which tires?
 

Right now I have Serfas Seca 25mm tires on it. Not really by choice. I was traveling and had tire/tube issues. Stopped at an LBS in my home town and these were the tires closest to what I wanted. 25mm are the size I normally run . I can mount some 28s but can only ride them when it is cool to cold. If it is warm at all, when they heat and expand they do not clear the caliper brakes or the bridge on the seat stays.

They just look large in the pic What are you running for wheels? Im trying to post pics but it keeps telling me I can only post 5 times in 24 hrs??? when I first tried I had only posted once in 24 lol.... ill figure it out. The age of the Ochsner is confusing, The campi seat post is a gen 1 record from what ive found I believe the dt shifters are the same... isn't the the shimano 600 stuff is newer though?
