Raleigh Team USA 12 speed

I am wondering if anyone has any knowledge on this bike. I canít find one on line. Most donít say Team USA.
year quantity produced value. Very nice bike. I picked up in an estate sale. This is my 1st post but I come across a few very nice unique vintage bikes.

Thank you you for any response

The subject bicycle is a circa 1985, Asian manufactured, upper entry level, sports-touring model. The model name and paint scheme was intended to cash in on the 1984 Olympic Games held in Los Angeles, as it duplicates the Raleigh Team livery of the period, when Raleigh was the "Official Supplier of Bicycles to the U.S. National Team". Connie Carpenter had won the women's Olympic Road Race on a similar looking but much higher grade Raleigh.

The frame is double butted CrMo main tubes with hi-tensile steel forks and stays. The derailleur are from Shimano's Z-series. Brakes should be the ubiquitous Dia-Compe QS500N. The rims, while aluminum, are only 27",as opposed to 700C, which was the dominant standard at the time. In short, everything is competent but lower end, with the main penalty being weight. The bicycle should weigh ~26-27lbs. MSRP would have been ~$225-250.

The subject bicycle has had at least the pedals replaced. The stem is adjusted dangerously high and risks coming out or breaking. Picture assist...

I've had two of these years ago. They were in great shape but nothing inspiring. I honestly want another nice one in the collection because I love the paint scheme. But they don't come up that often and some sellers want hundreds of dollars. The bike just isn't worth it...

This gallery has around a dozen, close up shots of one of the bikes.

Mid 80's Japanese made Raleighs are great bikes. English threads Japanese manufacturing standards. Good stuff. The main reason there are so many of these old Japanese bikes still around is because: 1. They made so many of them. 2. They are practically indestructable. 3. They were cheap. If I had enough space in my garage I'd buy as many of these things as possible. You can't get anything now that compares to these things for less than $500.

Team USA

I love mine. The original buyer barely rode it. Nearly mint.

Still keeping an eye out for a good one in my size. Silly want but I just love the paint job on these. If I ever get my hands on another one I will upgrade it to be super cool!.

I did see a youtube video of someone who "upgraded" to 700 wheels/tires... But Im trying to stay with original as much as possible... Rides sooo sweet but it might just be a indoor wall collector for me
