You have a very nice bike there. I believe it is a Gap, although I’ve never seen one with chrome lugs before. If I read the serial, number right, it is a 1987. The rear derailleur, crank, are first generation C Record which carry quite a bit of value. I can’t see the brakes well but I think they might be and wouldn’t be surprised if they are Cobalto which are also desirable. Rear derailleur alone will go for $125-$150+ on eBay. Good pick up! I have a Gap and really like it.

+1, it a Basso Gap (Columbus SL) with 1st generation Campagnolo C-Record drivetrain. The hubs are Record, so some of the other components may be earlier and/or lower level Campagnolo. It's hard to tell if the first S/N character is a lightly stamped '7' (i.e.1987) or the first character is actually the '6' (i.e 1986). It's definitely not the higher Ascot based on the seat lug cluster, nor is it the lower Arenacia, based on the presence of a front derailleur hanger. I'm not surprised by the chrome lugs. During this era, Basso offered the Gap with a wide degree of chroming and paint styles, to appeal to a broader customer base.

Great find.

I agree, it is a Gap, which is an Alpine town in France where one of the Basso brothers, Marino, won a stage victory in the TDF.

I have one and it is simply a great rider, fast and sure footed. A rather underrated brand IMHO. Enjoy.

Yep, I'll agree with the others. Looks like a Gap.

As @Giacomo 1 said, they are great rides. I consider my 1988 as my silk ride, it's that smooth on the road.

While the model is named after the host town of Marino Basso's biggest victory, it was not for a Tour de France stage. It was the 1972 World Championships pro road race.

Yes, it's a Gap with first generation campy components on it...lots of people like the stamped logos rather than the silk screen versions that later groups had.
check the rear wheel setback, it looks like it is not properly installed...pull it back a bit further if the chain allows otherwise a new (longer) chain?
Chrome needs a lot of attention...aluminum foil and water serve you well here...others have recommended steel wool but I would never use this approach because I feel it will leave micro scratches because the chrome is already compromised etc.
Check to be sure stem and seat post are not stuck...clean it (service) and wax it and enjoy the ride
As others have said you have a very nice bike even with all of its issues.
Best, Ben

Yes, thank you, I stand corrected.

Thank you for the quick replies, yes I'm currently tidying it up so the wheels or brakes aren't secured, only left for the photos (was too excited so quickly took some photos) having experienced the best of modern bikes there's just something about these vintage bikes that grabs my interest and still puts them in front!
