Raleigh Competition Grand Sport
I'm looking at a Ralegh Competition Grand Sport this weekend and based on photos (attached) it looks like a beaut. Obviously, an in-person inspection could change my opinion quickly, but I wanted to know what folks thought this was worth.
Description here: This is a BEAUTY! Completely torn down, cleaned, and reassembled. Raleigh Grand Sport Reynolds 531 (57Cm ST-C/C, TT 56C/C) Campagnolo Grand Sport Gruppo, Weiman Side pull brakes, Modolo Stem/ITM Bars and Brooks saddle.
I'd attach photos, but this is my first post and they are considered links. It does look cleaned and pristine.

We can't give an evaluation without pics. You could go into introductions and post something. If you respond, you'll quickly get to 10 posts so you can post a picture. This is a nice bike and if in good condition, it is worth $300 +/- $75. This is a full 531 frame which is a plus. The campy gran sport stuff isn't bad but it's not campy's top of the line.

...if there is a weak spot in that package, it is the Gran Sport Campy rear derailleur. But that's what they came with and they work OK if not abused. Otherwise, I have one that a guy down in Stockton bought new in England when he was studying there, and years later sold to me. I think I paid maybe 400-450 for mine, but it was years ago and prices were generally higher then.

There was also something called a "Grand Sports" that was marketed in the US for a long time. Mostly you see them in sky blue and white schemes. Good for their time, but different from the "Gran Sport"

Totally fair. Posted in intro, and will get some photos up later today.

Thanks 3alarmer. Based on the pics (which I will get up soon), it looks like the Competition MKII up on Sheldon Brown's Retro Raleigh section. sheldonbrown com/retroraleighs/competition

...the Comp with Campy is essentially a Competition frame of that year with nicer components. Solid ride, and very popular with the C+V crowd. The only Competition bikes I've ever had were the earlier version with black paint and the standard component package of Huret and some brakes I forget the name of. I think these frames were Carlton made frames, but I couldn't swear to it.

I bought a 1977 Competition GS a few years ago . I paid 300 for it and it had only been ridden a few times and then locked away. I like it a lot and ride it frequently. I have had no trouble with the Gran Sport RD , it shifts fine . Joe
