WOW I spent some time looking over the vintage Trek site and it is ever detailed and confusing! was each and every frame handwritten into a log? are the logs/charts actually scanned in anywhere?

Thanks for the info JohnDThompson. There sure are a lot of doubters. Here are some more pictures but I was really was hoping for more

It's hard to be certain from just the single photo provided, but it appears to be consistent with early model 170 frames, including the team frames. These did not use either the socketed seat lug or the Tange "Trident" fork crown found on later frames. The picture does seem to show features consistent with an early 170 frame, including Tange "bikini" lugs and a re-worked Ishiwata SCM fork crown, neither of which were used on other Trek frames.
But more pictures would be very helpful.

The discrepancies are irrelevant because the subject bicycle is reportedly from 1983 while I'm pretty sure the picture is from 1985. Marianne Berglund is wearing a jersey with Centurion sponsorship but still riding her 1984 Raleigh. Berglund rode for Levi's-Raleigh during 1983-1984 but switched to Centurion-Texas Metros early in 1985, after Levi's-Raleigh cut sponsorship followng the 1984 L.A. Olympics.

However, I'm actually disappointed that the early 170's didn't use the trident fork crown or the cleaner looking (IMHO) seat lug cluster.
Either way, it's a unique bike, with an interesting back story.

Olavarri competed very early in 1985. She announced her retirement after competing in the Beatrice Bicycle Classic stage race, which ended March 31. However, I've also read that she qualified for and competed in the 1985 World Track Championships.
I've got a few pictures of her. They're also always on red Treks. She would have been with 7-Eleven for several years as of the start of 1985, so there wouldn't be any reason for her to be anything but a Trek. The bicycle in the race picture does appear to be labeled Schwinn and the rider looks heavier than the pictures I've seen of Olavarri

Nooooooot! This is "could be a Masi Gran Criterium" mode for the Breaking Away thread. Fill in the Trek stays, a little chrome paint for the fork crown, some new decals, a few other things and boom, Masi. Heck, it looks like the OP's bike. Maybe it is a team bike as well. I got the discrepancies covered. The previous owner had the eyelets/cable guides added in an update/modernization. I think, he could have told me that. No way of knowing the truth without the serial number pic. Those dollar signs are flooding my mind now. Ka ching!

Here is the way the original owner purchased the bike. Those dollar bills are flying away. He changed out the saddle/brakes/tires and removed the decals. Kept the original parts, though. Still iffy. It could be 2 or 3 different models. And no, that is not the fork Trek had problems with.

Cool thread, thanks for the pics of the 1983 team 170! Seems like an unknown value on this, even with repaint********** I would not sell it for less than 2k on ebay or 1500 sale on this forum if were mine and if a 24in would not sell ever!

+1, hard to put a value on it. The repaint hurts the value for the collector, but makes it a rider. For the person not interested in the history, it is a 753 170 with a new paint job/decals. Finish it out and take it for a spin. Tough call. I would probably not sell it at this time. The value will go up as time goes on and the story of the different versions of 1983 170s gets out.

A Serotta 7-11 team bike just sold on eBay for $1550 with original paint, an original team 7-11 winter training onesie, extra parts and a more direct link to the rider. There is value to those extras and the classic Huffy red/white paint scheme. Seems to me that is a good baseline for fair market value. There are pluses and minuses on each of the bikes depending on the buyer preference, but the $1550 is a good place to start and then adjust lower or higher for certain factors.
