‘86 Bianchi Classica time capsule

Hey all,

I need to sell my wife’s Bianchi Classica that we bought new in (I think) 1986 from a bike shop in Madison, Wi. It ended up that she wasn’t real comfortable riding in the area that we were so she didn’t really ride much. We put it in the basement and it obviously hasn’t been on the road much at all. I put new skins in it a couple of years ago. I basically dusted it off and took some pics. It’s obviously absolutely bone stock and ready to ride. Not sure where to sell it or how much to ask. I don’t mind shipping it but I’ve never shipped a bike so not sure what’s involved.
Thanks for any advice.

Craigslist. Maybe $150. The bianchi name is good but you have an entry to low mid level bike.

Stem shifters are the kiss of death for a bike, they knock an easy $50 off the value. Not so much the shifters themselves, but because they're telling you that the quality of the rest of the bike is suspect. And I see a kickstand, which is not good. But it's made in Japan, which is good, and it's crom moly, which is also good. I wonder who built it?

The only real flaw I see is a small tear in the saddle. In my experience, "like new" bikes, like yours, are the easiest to sell. Small frames, such as this one, will appeal to smaller men and women, so they seem to be popular. In my area (northern NJ) I would not take less than $200 for that bike. I sell mine through craigslist and facebook marketplace.

Aside from the mentioned seat, it looks in great shape. I’d put it on CL for $150 and take the best offer. At this point your better off with $80 in your hand than an unridden bike

A bicycle with 23 year old grease is not ready to ride, even if it it hasn't been ridden. A knowledgeable buyer will be putting hours into an overhaul.

Thanks for the great advice everybody. Yeah I didn’t think about the grease issue. I’ll run it up the Craigslist flagpole and see who salutes.
