Is this a Colnago?

I hope the Colnago experts on this forum can shed some light on this. A friend of mine has this in his cellar. For the time being I only have these pictures, I can try to go there and take more pictures later. Any chance this is a real Colnago? The tubing sticker says Oria Special. I don't see any clover leafs, nor any of the other distinctive Colnago marks (weird tube profiles, pantographing, etc.). Looks like a mid-level early 1990s roadbike, very siimilar to a Mistral I have. Components are certainly not original. Did Colnago make bikes like this? If it's a Colnago, what would it be worth?

I don't think it is but I am no expert. Where is this? If it really is Oria and a 59 I'd give him $150ish

Aubergine 04-13-19 10:00 AM

The bike has been repainted. Note the sear post binder bolt, which was not removed when the frame was painted.

I would not even trust the tubing sticker.

lubloi 04-13-19 10:05 AM

Thanks. I also noticed the paint on the binder bolt when I looked at the picture again just now. Must be a repaint, so yes, should ignore the stickers.

Doesn't have the cloverleaf cutout on the lower head lug, looks more triangular. Not a 'Nago.

repechage 04-13-19 12:17 PM

Bike with Colnago graphics

CliffordK 04-13-19 12:29 PM

The seatstay tubing decal looks very much off.
As @Aubergine mentioned, it does look repainted.

As @bargainguy mentioned, wrong lug cutouts.

There is a "Sport" model that does have heart shaped cutouts, I think but with different details than that bike.

Overall, it does look like a fairly decent frame, and would make a good project if you could identify it.

I'd go slightly higher than @Bianchigirll on the value, but "Fakes" make me upset, and I'd ding off quite a bit for improper decals.

xiaoman1 04-13-19 12:29 PM

Agree it's a "NOGO"
Ben

lubloi 04-13-19 12:59 PM

Thanks everyone. Conclusion is that while the bike may be worth 150 to 200 dollars after cleaning and maintenance, it's definitely not a Colnago. If I will be working on this bike, I'll make sure to remove the decals, I don't like fakes either.

Bianchigirll 04-13-19 03:12 PM

More pics and details might bear light on what it is or might be.

unterhausen 04-16-19 04:34 PM

A guess after a rough inspection says it's Columbus SL. Biconical seat stays and ROR chainstays in the Columbus style. If that's right, it's a decent frame, but not a Colnago

That's not all bad.

TugaDude 04-17-19 07:55 AM

So I guess it is a Col No Go?

jdawginsc 04-27-19 10:34 AM

I am going with a ColNOgo. That is a repaint and resticker I think.

It could be a "Movie Masi" ;)

Nice. That Trek-to-counterfeit-Masi thread deserves to be preserved as a permanent Bike Forums meme.

Is there a good web site for checking a Colnago's details and figuring out its model?

Dr.Lou 04-30-19 04:15 PM

Definitely not a Nag. A Colnago would also have “Colnago” and club stamped on the bottom of the bottom bracket.

Distanc3 05-01-19 01:50 AM

I dont think that's a Colnago unfortunately.

seypat 05-01-19 06:56 AM

Maybe a Col Not O?

I would have thought the fork and seat stays would have identified this frame. But that was the era of bikes that I totally ignored back then

jdawginsc 05-04-19 08:24 AM

Funny thing is the lugwork at the head-tube is not terrible. The seat stay globs/front end lugs bring an image of some manufacturer's lower level bike set, but it is slipping my mind.

HPL 05-05-19 11:54 AM

? Frame, Colnago ?

[QUOTE=lubloi;20883230]Thanks everyone. Conclusion is that while the bike may be worth 150 to 200 dollars after cleaning and maintenance, it's definitely not a Colnago. If I will be working on this bike, I'll make sure to remove the decals, I don't like fakes either

A couple quick notes since my ling ling got wiped out by this site, sorry can't waste that time again.

1) It's only truly a fake if you know it and try to continue to pass it off as something other than it is. Ignorance of such precludes you (or should) from persecution. I know, I sport at least 2 "fakes" (as sold to me) and have to inform those not in the know of the truth.

2) What are the threads for the BB? What is the width of the BB? Italian: 36x24F, 70mm

3) What is the "true" seat tube ID? BEWARE of false measurements! SL 27.2, SP 27.0

4) What make/type of dropouts?

5)NOT ALL Colnagos have the "clubs" cut-out and/or "COLNAGO" stamp in the BB. I wouldn't worry on that since the frame is not old enough (pre-early 70's).

I don't really see anything that looks like a brazing glob to me, it all looks like dirt, possibly painted over. The brazing at the top of the seat stays looks pretty clean to me
