Pinarello ID: Need help
Hello,
This is my catch of the day! This Pinarello is mounted with Campy 6 speed C-Record - except for the brake callipers - which seems to be 1986 (brake levers are from the 4th gen I think). I also have the original C-Record pedals with original straps and the original Rolls saddle, all in pretty good shape. The owner did not remember the model and I have a hard time identifying it. It has been repainted
(see the columbus decal) and there is also something I could not see on any other Pinarello: rear brake cable brackets are welded bottom/left side of the top tube (see picture). Maybe it was welded by the painter (was repainted at Marinoni).
If someone can help with id/dating, it would ne greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Francois

Any idea about this bike and its uncommon rear brake cable lugs? Treviso 1984-85?
Or maybe someone can indicate a source of information On the web. I am short of search words on Google...

Not sure of course but I have an 85 Treviso Victory and the fork on mine is different(more flat) than the bike in this thread. Also mine did not have the GP engravings on the seat stays. So perhaps this may be a fancier model than a Treviso(Asolo/Montello?)
No pump peg on the headtube, as well as what looks to me a later bottom bracket design with "Pinarello" on it, my '85 simply has 2 slots cut in it.
My guess is later than 1986 for sure as you've already said in you original post.
Bottom ran brake cable lugs are interesting indeed!

Thanks Sergey. Probably not a Montello. My understanding is that Montello all had the top tube internal rear brake cable routing as well as both seat stays chromed. The more I search about Italian bikes (Colnago's and Pinarello at least), the more confused I am

Montellos didn’t have a chainstay bridge and used SLX tubing. Typically the rear triangle was fully chromed. (Mine didn’t have any chrome, it does now

I think yours has had the top tube replaced.

I will try to ask the vendor. He was the original owner
Hard to see since it's been resprayed but what I see is OG537 (or is it GG537? Possible).
Also, if it's of any help, it has a Pinarello rear drop out, not a Campagnolo one.

You seem to have researched thoroughly. Unfortunately, pre-84 info is pretty much impossible to come by.
FWIW, the fork and the bottom bracket look just like what's on my 87 Montello. Forks can be changed, so don't read too much into that. Montello's didnt have the BB bridge. They did have internal routing, except for the very first model, which was like a Treviso.
Treviso, (and all, AFAIK, of the mid-80s frames except Montello) had the cable routed along the top of the top tube with three attachment points.
What does your brake bridge look like?

This is an interesting 1990 catalog page:
https://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/...ogoTreviso.jpg
Montello here can be SL or SLX.
It's worth pointing out that your frame does not have a front derailleur hanger. Here's a page from an 85 catalog showing both with and without on a Treviso. I don't know that I've ever seen earlier than the 85 catalog. Maybe yours is an 84.

I actually just came across an 81 catalog:
https://labibleduvelocataloguespinar...ello-1981.html
No help identifying your frame though. It's very possible the re-painter removed rusty cable lugs and added new ones where yours are. You could remove the paint in the right area and see what the base metal looks like. (Hope you realize I'm kidding)

Exactly like the Treviso on the 85 catalogue image.
Ouf! Good that I read until the end this time
. I think I will contact the seller to have more info on this.
So Treviso 84-85 is probably right. Thanks CyclingFool95. Concerning pre-84 info, here is a link where you will find info about 79 and 82 bulgier.net - /pics/bike/Catalogs/.

Interesting, I’m not sure when the Pinarello stamped dropouts were introduced. I would have said 87, but that’s just a guess.
