1986 Centurion Elite RS

Hey guys, I'm looking into getting this bike and want to see if this is a good deal! It's a light blue 1986 centurion elite RS 21". I'm not sure how I can show pics since I'm new and don't have 10 posts yet. Any advice on that also?

Seller wants $350, but bottom dollar is $275

Any info appreciated!

It's a fine bike...

...but condition of the bike is important at that price. And whether the components are original or changed. If changed for the worse, then value goes down.

I'm assuming that you've visited the web link to the original catalog page?

Centurion Elite RS/Super

So, is it original? Is it in very good to excellent working condition? Then $275 would be full market value.

In what city are you located? That affects the demand and pricing, too.

This was my first bike and i think 275 or higher seems way high for an entry level road bike with most likely mid grade components at best. Its Tange #2 tubing, nothing particularly special. They are nice bikes though depending on component mix and of course as mentioned, your location will affect price.

This bike as described is a 1986 if correct it is quit a bit nicer than the early Elite RS bikes. If it is in very good ready to ride condition with pretty all original components I would put the value at $250-275 tops in a fairly hot market. In an average market in less than perfect typical used condition it would be half that.

I consider Centurion Elite an upper level high value bike. Most high end vintage Japanese bikes sell for about 1/2 to 1/3 of equivalent vintage Italian bikes. High end Japanese bikes usually bottom out around $300. Unfortunately, the vintage bike market sucks right now. So, good luck. Brand new hand made steel bikes of the same quality sell for well over $2K now.

I bought one of those quite a few years ago in "as new" condition. It had not been ridden but once or twice and I paid $100 for it. The tires were bad so I put a set of Conti's on and cleaned the bike. I then rode the bike for two years and loved it , but it was I believe a 1984 or 5 and a little too new , I like 70's bikes. I sold it for $300 and the guy didn't haggle at all. It was cherry and 100% original except for tires.

I really don't consider these "entry level" bikes. Mine was Champion #2 tubing which, granted , is not Reynolds or Columbus. Mine had Suntour Cyclone Derailleurs and Gran Comp brakes , Araya hard anodized wheels laced with SS spokes to some Cyclone hubs , I believe. It has been a while since I owned it so I could be over stating the bike , but my memory tells me it was very nice and light , I think at the top end of the mid range. IMHO Joe
