Cannondale R500 Racing Bike

Hi everyone! I知 new! I知 currently riding a Schwinn from the 70s. I was thinking about upgrading to this Cannondale. The seller said the frame has small chips throughout and a small dent on the tube. It痴 on the top and the dent is about the size of a dime.

He also said the front and rear derailleurs do not shift to the lowest gear.

He is seeking $200. Any thoughts?

R500 does not tell us what year it was made as that model was made for many years.
I would pass

^^^^ I agree with the above, and it's hard to judge without photos and more details.

Markets are different in different locales, but that sounds high for a "rough" bike. I'd be very wary of an aluminum bike with a top tube dent. That said, I rode an aluminum bike with a top tube dent for years and never had any problems . There are just too many nice bikes out there for the same money. In my market that bike (based on your description) would sit for months and never sell.

Good luck in your bike search!

An aluminum frame with a dent is not good. While not great in steel, I wouldn't be nearly as leery to ride it as in aluminum. I would pass unless the component are worth transferring to another frame.

For $200, you ought to be pretty easily able to find an un-dented Cannondale. They're great bikes, but they've been making them since the early 80's, and people are unlikely to junk them, so there are plenty out there.

This one even has brifters:
