Raleigh Clubman

What can you tell me about age, quality and value for this Raleigh Clubman?

I am having a hard time with this one. The equipment looks original but no chromed fork tips or stays. It isnt clear but I dont see the usual seat tube lettering.

It is priced at $250 CAD but it is a good 3 hours round trip. Size might be ok but condition is quite bad. I am a quarter convinced someone turned an old Raleigh sports 3 speed into a 5 speed derailleur bike with this one.

Those are nicer lugs - I think it is some sort of nicer Raleigh and probably a Clubman or something similar.

Looks like this model was only made from 1948-1950.

If that is indeed the 71-degree seat, 73-degree head, I'd be all over that like white on rice ... though knowing me, I'd be hunting the parts to set it up with some sort of Sturmey F-something hub, or maybe a vintage 40-hole flip/flop. One similar to this got away from Facebook Marketplace a couple of months back, and I was just a day or two too late - it disappeared into a charity store and was gone immediately. Sigh.

It’s either a ‘48 Lenton Clubman or a ‘49 Clubman, given the color. I’m not sure if the rear Simplex mech and 4-speed block are original, but they could be. I have a ‘49, which came with a Sturmey Archer AW rear hub. Note that these originally came with 26 x 1 1/4”/597mm/EA 1 wheels.

I received a few more photos. I wont be pursuing it due to condition issues but here they are:

The teeth look quite worn.

Other photos dont seem to want to show up yet. I will add them in a few minute .

How much is it, if I might ask? Just the GB Hiduminium brake set would set one back a good $100, or possibly much more if the levers are intact. The very early Cyclo Benelux plunger derailleur is also rare.

$250, plus a 3 hour car ride.

The sold calipers were around the $50 mark on Ebay and I suppose the levers would bump it up to maybe double. Cyclo benelux stuff also not going over $100 for the most part. I had a look but for me to put it back together properly would mean replacing many if not all the components. If the chainrings look like that the rear cogs will likely be similarly worn and may skip. Pulley wheels too. Rust, etc.
