To buy or not to buy tomorrow: Cannondale 2.8 road bike on Craigslist for $180

have a old Gitane road bike but was looking for fun on craigslist and saw:

"For sale a Nice Cannondale 2.8 aluminum road bike with 16 speeds Via Ultegra Derailleurs .Nice Comfortable leather saddle. Frame size 26 inches or 66 cm. Carbon EMS Fork. Mavic alloy wheels mounted on 700 X 25 cm Continental Gator skins in good condition. New Handlebar tape. Has extra brake lever in the center of the handlebars shown in the pictures. 1 water bottle holder included. Bike is always stored inside a smoke free home when not being used. I'm asking $180.00 cash in person. I can meet some where at a safe place for you to take a look at and test out the bike. "

Do you think this is worth the price he's asking? I don't know a whole heckuva lot on bikes but I'm reading a lot of nice features like a carbon fork and aluminum frame, and nice shifters etc...

I'm also 6'6" and so I'm pretty tall so its hard to find a tall, used bike but it looks a whole heckuva lot better than what I have.

Anything you'd look for especially? Is there a counter offer on price that would be fair (I do confess I love getting a deal).

Thanks!

ugh; I realize there are anti-spam rules in place but this makes it challenging to post photos for critical feedback.

if you happen to type http then colon then // then lawrence.craigslist.org/bik/d/lawrence-cannondale-28-road-bike/6965439535.html

you could see the photos

Here are some things that I have learned when Buying a Vintage Bicycle...

When you meet the seller, have his cash readily available but offer $125.00 as a starter. That would represent a good deal, however; the seller's asking price is not really out of line but please do not take that as an appraisal. To best appraise value, I need to see pictures and know where the bike is located (market area has a great impact on value).

Hope that is helpful and welcome to the Bike Forums. In closing, get a bike that fits, even if it takes a while. An ill fitting bike is darn close to a waste of time if riding and comfort while doing so is the goal.

That's probably worth it if there are no dents or dings

I like this one better with the brifters and appearance of being cleaner though -- but asking price is admittedly more too

The $180 model looks like it needs a lot of love; appears to have been stored outside (based on the apparent corrosion on the cranks and rust on the FD), but I'm a novice and not a road rider (MTB only). If it were me, the $300 is a better deal.
