Now I am not finding the time to do any of the other projects which I have in process or queued up. Frame is pretty decent, needs bars, stem seatpost and saddle. Along with the usual tires, cables etc. what shoul I expect to get for thisproject bike? Shimano 600, araya rims. Thanks |
Looks to be similar Centurion Ironman. It is in poor condition and needs everything. I would buy it for the frame set. $100-150 Charlotte NC

$100 if the seat post and stem are not stuck. Needs a lot of love, components are not in great shape either.
if they are stuck then money would need to come my way to take it. Not literally but a year ago I had to resort to lye to "melt" out a seat post in an RB-1. Never, Never, Never, Never, Never, Never, again. You say it needs a stem and seat post. Are they stuck? Do they move? I hope so. |
hmmmmmmmmm....... that seat post is way too low. Stem way too high. Weird handlebars. What a mess. If you could disassemble the whole thing without problems then, the parts are worth something. The frame & fork alone is worth a hundred bucks. If nothing is stuck & wheels are OK, I might give $200 for it.

That saddle looks so sad.

Thanks for the replies,
both the stem and seatpost were easily removed, the brakes, derailleurs, shifter and cranks are actually in good condition. Wheels spin acceptably true. There is a layer of grime which makes it appear in worse condition than it really is. |
That's a very desirable vintage Japanese race bike. It actually looks good despite the ton of dirt and rotted tires. I bet the original saddle is under that stupid cover. Hoods, cables, etc...if you've lost interest, yeah, I'd put it up for 150 and, in a biking city, get that OBO. Those 600 aero brake hoods are pretty unique and I think would cost an arm and a leg if you could find them.

After new handlebars & stem, new tires, padded handlebar wrap, polish, etc.......... $600
|
I just picked up a DX4000, basically the same but with 105. I love it, reminds me of an Ironman. Little heavy but a nice solid, smooth rider. They don't command a lot of money due to the name, but seriously underrated bikes.

With the soft pricing of the last few years, getting $600 after restoring that bike is not very likely.

I found a cheap DX 4000 and put all new consumables and a ton of effort into it. The paint is excellent and finally got $220 so getting $600 seems way high. They are awfully nice bikes though so why not just keep it?

I have the same bike. It is an '86 model, and was top of the regular line for Panasonic that year. I am very happy with mine, and like the indexed Shimano 600 (Ultegra) on it. Great riding bike for racking up some serious mileage! I also have had people I meet riding make very positive comments about it. It's nice looking. The bike shown needs some time, effort, parts and supplies put into it. Mine wound up with a couple of small scratches. I matched the 'grape dust' factory paint to Sally Hansen '902 Polar Purple' Magnetic Nail Color nail polish. Again, great bike. Worth about $75 to $100 (the vintage bike craze has cooled off in my area). Fixed up, however, it will be a real nice keeper.

Panasonic made NICE bikes...they ride nicely, they were well made, sensible...this would be a bike I'd recommend to all of those "I want a nice bike, but I can't afford to pay____" sorts of posts. I would have no problem dropping $450 on this in decent shape if I wanted a good all around roadie.
You have a great project there...you should be able to get at least $200 as it sits if you're in a decent area. Did I mention that Panasonic makes some awfully nice bikes? |
Panasonic not only made nice bikes but they tend to be a good value. A DX 4000 just sold locally--pretty much all original and in very good shape cosmetically--for $125.
|
Nice bike with a lot of potential but also needs a lot of work. For someone who can do the work themselves, it would be a good investment but not for someone who has to pay for the work to be done. $150-200 tops is fair. Fixed up, this is worth $300-400.
