CCM Galaxie bike in Ontario, Canada

Hi,
I am new to this forum and I was told I could not upload pictures for now. So I am not sure how to get an idea of the value of my CCM Galaxie bike without pictures... Suggestions?

Welcome to the forums. The subject bicycle is a 1971-1972 model with the Martain Red finish. The good news is that it is a male version, appears to be completely OEM, in good cosmetic condition with relatively light rust. The bad news is that it's a relatively modern model and only in the juvenile size, with 26" x 1-3/8" wheels and the 18" frame. Typically CCM collectors want adult male and pre-1970s models. The 1970s are generally considered to be the beginning of the end of CCM, when workmanship and their reputation suffered. They prefer earlier models with CCM manufactured parts, as opposed to later models such as this, when CCM started using Japanese parts like the Shimano rear hub on your bicycle.

Consequently, this bicycle will probably not command a lot a money. It is the type of bicycle that you find at garage sales with $20 CDN price tags, though it would be more like $50 CDN in metropolitan areas. If you find an interested collector, you could see that figure get into the $100 CDN range. You could probably make more money parting it out, as there would be interest in items like the saddle, hand grips, chain guard and fenders. However, it takes a lot more time and effort.

In order to reach more CCM collectors, you can post it on the FOR SALE forum at Vintage CCM | Forums . Depending on where you live in Ontario, there are also a couple of vintage bicycle shows in Brantford and Amherstburg that are popular with CCM collectors.

IMHO, Most CCM bicycles are bare bone economy items. (I wouldn't want to be on that bike bombing down a steep 1/2 mile hill at 35mph). But, there are many people that are very sentimental about old CCM bikes. Some kid may have dreamed about getting that very bike for Christmas.
