Colnago c42 - a 5000$ bike?
So this beast turns up in my fairly small city at a lost and found auction. The only listing I can find for this bike has an unspecified price at 'above 5000$', not much else out there. No info on condition as it is only avaliable for viewing at auction next the week, but definitely not a wreck. Is this something very rare?

Yes, this is rare. Yes, this is expensive. The trouble is it's hard to put a price on something like this as you rarely see them or something comparable for sale. Strange set-up with the mixed wheels, mixed generations of Shimano Dura-Ace and extreme risers on the ITM aero bars and very long post. This would no longer be UCI race legal. Frame is very small. Appeal would be to collectors. Picture assist...

Thanks. Actually turns out it auctions tonight. Auction tends to be little visited and generating low prices, esp. during winter, so I will at least go and have a look. I am no bike flipper and have no connections, so how to go about selling this should I get it for cheap will be an adventure. Will make a post with pics and info if I aquire it.

I would go for that at a reasonable price!

You'll want to try to do some research on the previous owner. That always adds to the story. I'd start by asking around any local bike shops or bike clubs, groups, etc. That is assuming you do acquire it.

For anyone interested: The Colnago sold for about 800 euros including premium tonight in Oslo. The bike was not in good condition, at least not with collectors market in mind. Scratches and small dents on both frame and fork, fading logos on metal parts. Goupset was all dura ace with campagnolo cantilevers.
Thanks again for all chip ins.

somebody bought that from a race team end of season auction, or from an old pro cleaning out his garage . Trying to make a too small bike fit with the aero bar risers and long post - plus the parts bin build up , would suggest that
