Koga Miyata worth it?

So, I've found this '92 Koga Miyata Exerciser on CL that is priced nearly at $500. I've managed to talk the seller down to at least $400 so far. But I have a feeling I could go lower considering the apparent state of the components. Any thoughts? Anyone have one of these?

Thats high for my market. Nicer down tube shifter bikes here are in the $150 to $225 range. I would put this one near the top of the range. Guy is obviously a flipper, maybe he is patient and will get his price.

For a DT shifter bike with a mixed mid level 6x2 drivetrain and kinda rough looking mismatched wheels and tires the price seems high to me also. Really nice frame set but for it to be even near the asking price I would expect full matching DA components and nice matched wheels with good tires with everything cleaned tuned up ready to ride. As presented I would say it is really only $200-250 in most markets.

Everything w/ downtube shifters over $300 in my market stays for sale much longer than in the past. Perhaps the only exception is vintage Touring bikes.

There is a moderate following of the Koga Miyata bikes. I agree with above, that comes in at the high end of what I'd expect.

Nonetheless, the bike outwardly appears to be in very nice shape, perhaps justifying a little bit more.

How tall are you? Does the bike fit?

Yeah, it seems a little high even considering DC inflation. But yes, also seems to be in good condition.

I'm 6' 1'', a little on the tall side for this frame. But, the best frame I ever rode was a 54cm that fit like a glove. Unfortunately, I haven't ridden this one yet. So that will obviously determine its worth.

Seems 2x overpriced to me considering the condition. btw, the top tubes on those Kogas are on the short side. Re: 6'1" on a 54cm, what is your PBH?

What are the brakes and cranks? The brakes look like Exage, is this a parts bin build? I am no expert on these but I agree $500 seems a bit much

There are a couple of different ways to measure the bikes, but for a "vintage" bike with a horizontal top tube, I'd be looking for something on the order of 58 to 60cm. Maybe down to 56cm if you like a fairly aggressive stance, with a fair amount of bar drop.

I like to measure the size by measuring center of bottom bracket to the top of the top tube, measuring along the seat tube.

Also, a horizontal line from the center of the seat tube or seat post to the center of the head tube, and it should be similar.

Nonetheless, fit is personal, and up to you. But, if you immediately turn around and buy a longer seat post and a foot tall stem to "make it work"... then it probably doesn't fit.

Good to know about the top tubes. I come in at about 33''. Definitely have a long torso and shorter legs.

I'll wait around and see what happens with the listing. If the seller struggles to sell I'll try to talk him down further. But will also try to make it out there for a test ride.

Those are really nice, but one thing the check really close is the entry exit of the rear brake line. The internal cableway created stress risers and cracks.

Good point on this bike does have a relatively short top line and wheelbase so less room range sizing wise than other bikes.
