"Refurbished" Raleigh Grand Prix "Reality Check"

I was browsing FB and CL looking for a Raleigh Grand Prix to restore and came across this ad. How do I break it to her that

1) it has never been "refurbished" (if it has then it was ridden very hard for much more than 50 miles)
2) it will need ALOT of work (complete tear-down, elbow grease, etc.)
3) it will need ALOT of parts (cables, tubes, tires, brake pads, grease, etc., etc.)
4) it's only worth about $25.00

One owner purchased mid 1980s and it has maybe 50 miles, less than a 100 miles for sure. Refurbished about 10 years ago and rode it once and put it away in my garage.

$150.00

How do I convince her that

How do I convince her that - Simply put, you don't!

Offer what you feel it to be worth and, if the seller is not interested, leave your phone number, in case reality does click in and she changes her mind. My guess is that the bike was refurbished some time ago, Ridden hard or stored poorly? The seller sets the price. Yes, the bike will need work but why would the seller care, knowing in her mind that the bike had been refurbished.

Also, you might want to check the top and down tubes for paint cracking, perhaps indicating a bent frame tube or tubes...

yup, there's no reason she would believe me or even care. I'll check the listing again in a week or so. At that price, it's not going anywhere soon

4) it's only worth about $25.00

I completely disagree. I think it's worth at least $30.

The generator set is worth 30-40

If you can ride the bike as is, to me its worth 50-60

There are many bikes for sale. Be patient and the " right" one will come along

Offer her what you think its worth and see if she bites, you never know. I saw a bike put up for 550 which I didn't have and knew was worth more. Sent an email saying I had 300, please just hang onto my email and phone and if it doesn't sell right away and they just want to unload it let me know and I'd buy it. Ended up with it the next day. Never know what people will go for. Other thing could be where its stored, if its kept in a fairly airy garage off fresh water it can look pretty bad from a lack of use and just hanging there especially in humid environments.
