1990 Tommasini Competizione

Recently acquired this beautiful Tommasini. Confirmed with Barbara at Tommasini that this bike was made for the US market in December 1990, stamped 012 US. Quattro Colori paint, Columbus SLX tubing, Dura Ace 7400 8 speed. New to the vintage bike world and I’m wondering what’s its current value is. Am going to do a tear down/clean up to the best of my ability to get it operational. Thanks!

Working on getting pictures uploaded. Having some trouble!

I've never sen a Competezione with Columbus SLX. Introduced for 1990, it was Tommasini's economical Columbus SL model. Your frame has an older style (pre-1988) SLX decal, while rhe fork has the proper (1988+) SL decal, which makes it suspect. When you overhaul the bottom bracket, you should carefully examine the insides of the tubes for the five helical ridges that are indicative of SLX. If they are absent, which I suspect they will be, it's Columbus SL.

A frame manufactured in December 1990 would make it a 1991 model. With a full Dura-Ace group, these originally sold for about $1600 US (the frame was $699). This one is not in very good condition. It's dirty, showing lots of oxidization and rust on the chrome. I'm even seeing signs of rust bubbles under the paint. In current condition and today's weak market, I'd value it at ~$250 US. In a post Covid-19 market, if it cleans up well, it could be worth substantially more.

Selective photo assist.

Thanks for the help T-Mar! I too was suspect of the SLX label as to why I emailed Barbara. I will inspect them bottom bracket when I get to it. Thanks for the info.
