1994 Rossin Ghibli SLX w/Dura Ace 7410

I fell hard for this 1994 Ghibli a local retailer is offering. It's very clean and has first gen ergo shifting DA 7410. I love DA but the seller is pricing it as if it had Campy Record.
My concern is should I ever want to resell the bike, the Dura Ace might not be desirable to potential buyers who expect Campy on a bike of this pedigree. What then is a fair price for this bike with Dura Ace ? I live in Toronto, an expensive bike market.
Thanks.

Back in '89/'90 I built a lot of 10Spd drive Guerciottis both SL and SLX with 600 and Durace and none with Campagnolo. Just saying

I think the Ghibli is obscure enough that people looking for one wouldn't really mind the DA. When I bought my 2nd Bianchi MAX frame it was a horrible mix of low rent Ergos and derailleurs with 600 cranks and brakes. I till took her in and made her into a full Campi, although not matching, bike. To me the frame/fork was more important (and yes I paid what the seller was a asking albeit a bit high)

Thanks for that valuable insight. I love the fact that it's a blue Rossin and not a ubiquitous more famous brand in red. I want to ride something classic but different.
Don't think I'll be able to resist buying it.

What B -Girl says!

Some years ago, U bought one of those famous red bikes for a song, because it had been built in 1987 with DA components, and had Sante Clincher wheels. 1st set of clinchers I owned since I was 12 years old. DA was top flight racing equipment by then.
Did Rossin actually tone down the colors and decals in the nineties or was this a custom paint job. Rossins were rarely so subtle. You're lucky I'm in NY, and the border is closed,, you might not have had a bike to resist.
But bottom line, with the vagaries of the C&V market, especially now, only buy it because it's the bike you want, AND it fits properly. Otherwise I suggest waiting for a bike that fits... Seriously. Really.
If it meets those criteria and is as nice as it looks, get the best price you can, and if you're satisfied go enjoy it, and ride safe;
Good luck, Eric

I'm pretty sure the paint was original. The company was sold to Finross in 1992. Maybe the new directors decided to tone down the paint schemes. It does fit but I have yet to test ride it. You'd be wise to buy bikes in Canada with the exchange rate here so poor now against the USD. $1 USD today is worth $1.41 CAD.

Since you are asking for an appraisal, I wouldn't pay much more than $1000, personally.

It is really nice and 8 speed Dura Ace is great but you can get a lot of bike for not much money lately, even in Toronto.

Haven't bought it yet. Seller is asking very high price. He's not eager to sell. Doesn't even have it listed. Is the market for classic Italian bikes in a slump right now ? Bike shops are selling modern bikes like crazy now due to Covid.

Yes

my example is an extreme one - but after languishing on FB Marketplace for a year with a $750 asking price I lowered it to $600 and eventually took $400 (with a nice Turbo saddle installed onstead of that weird one on there in the pic) - this is a steel main frame Opera with D-A 7800 groupset - a classic marque with a modernish groupset that can run with anything new

I let go of it at $400 only after having several exchanges with the new owner and it indicated he was truly interested in it to ride - but then again, after it leaves my hands , its not my business anymore -- but im happy to say in this case, the guy was the proper height for it, and we follow each other on Strava and he is putting in some miles on the 'ol girl (well, maybe not that old )

One of the other members on here stated in another thread that this is the perfect climate for letting go of a $1000 bike for 400 bucks ( @gomango i think ) and I did exactly that

This bike is an apples to oranges comparison to the Rossin , but my example is still indicative of how poor the market is now

Why don't you just tell us what the seller is asking?

If it's Cam's shop, I'd expect the price to be around $1600 or so...

without naming names the seller is asking $3,000 CAD. The bike is in excellent barely ridden condition though.

so what's a reasonable price for an excellent condition Rossin with a fancy paint job and DA or Campy ?

Value , Blue Rossin

If it's spectacular, really original paint, not redone in the nineties and mint, mostly C record $1200. DA...$900 feels high. When I responded after B-Girl, about DA vs Campy on a high end bike, I was pricing that bike right there, in my head, around 800 with DA and 1k-ish with excellent campy, I acknowledge that I did not price it as "Almost unridden".

Also, though I think it's cool to be solid blue, "Rossins" specifically, are more sought after with extreme paint jobs. I've tried to post a crimped-tube Daccordi I sold last year, which I think is an instructive comp, in condition and desirability. but BF is not co-operating. Excellent Campy "C" Record and chorus stuff. $1080 BIN plus $100 shipping.

You can find much better value elsewhere. Seriously, I don't see this over 1k US, and in my mind, less.

Best regards, Eric

If you buy this bike for 3000.....

Youll be able to buy something much higher end for that money. Offer him 700-800 while looking elsewhere, he wont get anything close to what hes asking for 1000%. You mention Canada being higher market?...Check eBay, youll be able to find something there, guaranteed.

I have a Rossin Prestige, granted not as clean, but I got it for 600, for reference.

I am thinking $700 to $800 USD. It might sit there for a while at that price though. C&V bikes aren't selling like they used to.

looks pretty clean...if i were in the market for a ready to roll rossin of that caliber, i'd expect to pay $1,000 usd (without shipping charges).
if it were on ebay or craig's list, i would expect it to relist/drop in price though several times. retailer will eventually find someone wanting to
recapture that first love and keep it at the same price.

Late 2018, I paid $1200+shipping (at auction mind you) for a near new (two minor marks on the frame) 96 Master Light with 9-speed DA (yes, many many Italian bikes in that era came with Shimano, alas). I''ve been seeing a lot of SL/SLX Italian bikes with 8 /9 speed components listed for crazy money - personally, I don't see paying more than $600 for that bike, and at that I'd need to really want it.

Wow - wish you'd sold it to me. Someone on local CL has one listed at $2200 (with 10 speed Centaur and Neutron wheels) - that's ridiculous of course, but so is letting it go for $400. These are sweet riding frames.

^worth a bit more than $500 canadian or us dollars with the full (?? didn't see front der) dura-ace and what looks to be (at least on the drive side) pretty good paint
on a 25+ yo frame. $2,200 usd would be a stretch but as i said before, $1,000 usd seems reasonable if you're a rossin fan, don't want to deal with overhauling it and
are ready to ride it. is it a 57 or 58cm?
