Crashed my bike :(
So, I'm gonna make this post in to for post, so i can start to add some photos.
In march I went to pick up my old bike that I had locked outside my old flat. It was outside unused for 4 years!
So when the lockdown started i picked up my bike so I could fix it, and give me something to do.
The bike was given to me about 8 years ago by som distant family, and is a nice touring bike but up of many different parts. they cycled from England to Norway and all the way around Norway and back to England. they also cycled with the many other places in Europe. So its safe to say it has seen some miles.

It was bult up of many different parts. I dont know what year or make the frame was, but it was a steel frame probably late 80s with lugs to attach mudguards and racks. and also mtb brakes. it had a sakae SR stem and humpert trekking bars, Shimano STX RC 3x7 rear and front derailleur and brakes. shimano hubs.

4 years outside, is not good. but I managed to get it back in usable condition, after a propper clean and degreasing.
New tires and tubes, new rear cassette, new chainring, and chain, new bearings in the hubs and headset. and new seat and handlebar tape.
And I made it into some sort of Holdsworth inspired bike

I did almost 500Km in the past months. But last saturday I crashed in to the back of a car. and toasted the frame:/
I dont know how, but the front wheel was actually fine, but the frame cracked and luckily I got away from it with a few scratches and a sprained wrist.

As it its the bike is worth about $150 US mainly parts don't know UK. Too bad about the bike great and your fine. It. is not uncommon for a crash bike to have OK wheels and wrecked frame set with top end modern tires well built wheels are actually tougher than most frames.. As an idea nice chro-mo cross bike as a donor frame would work perfect with these components and you you can likely pic one up for $100 or less.

Maybe they are asking what the bike was worth before the crash?

So I've decided to polish up the groupset and see if i can sell them. as I understand the STX RC stuff was well made.
I also decided to go more in a road bike direction. and just picked up a 1982 Holdsworth Special for £150!

My opinion is that it was a decent and serviceable, but not high-level, frame. Lugs are nice. Not mass-produced in China. An entry level all-around road frame. It is sad to lose a bike you appreciate, but do not cry too much.
For one, the chain stays do not seem to be too long, so it was not necessarily a dedicated randonneuring bike. Also, the drop-outs look pretty basic, versus what is used on more specialized frames built to be light, strong, and give options. The forks are raked pretty far forward, which is done for randonneuring but also to make a more pleasant and smooth ride around the neighborhood or trail; more straight is for quick response in racing, but makes the bike trickier and more twitchy to handle.
It is great that you survived the crash! You had the right frame for that encounter!

I used to run a detailing shop, and a customer with a brand new 911 got hit not once, but twice in a few days by cyclists. Being an avid cyclist and commuter, I found this really weird.

Is there a bicycle co-op near you? If there is it could be worth hanging onto the complete bike until they reopen. They'd have the tools you need to remove the components plus the knowledge on how to do it; if you needed help that is. You might even get lucky and find another suitable frame there to put those parts on.
Cheers
