2000 Lemond Zurich worth?

So there's a 2000 Lemond Zurich on CL, with new tires and freshly tuned. Looks to be in good condition. Great bike, but it IS almost old enough to drink. The bike market here is on the pricier side. What's a reasonable amount to pay? Steel with carbon fork, all Ultegra.

Is that the one for $600? Normally I think $450-$500 would be more appropriate but these are unusual times. Bike seems pretty original and unmolested. You could do worse.

Be warned, that was one of the years with really soft paint. If you sneeze on it the paint will have a mark. That said, mine was fast as snot!

That's fast! Might ride the paint right off!
I don't NEED another bike, just like this one. I also read that people had issues with the rear wheel coming off, the front hub squeaking, and the brifters rattling. Between all that and the soft paint....I don't know.

Those other things sound like random individual complaints, rather than flaws across the model. I mean you are talking about component problems, they all were built with Ultegra. IDK whose hubs were used in 2k. My 2002 Zurich is a fantastic ride. Note that Jamesdak has a few Lemonds, fwiw.
Cheers.

Drink? Oh, I see... You mean almost qualifies as C&V. My oldest ones will qualify for early SSI in a few years*, you young whippersnapper.

*Still by any reasonable C&V standard, not "old".

So I looked at it yesterday. Felt good to ride. The paint was not sneezed off of it or anything, but it also wasn't shiny or as strikingly over the top as expected (what with the red rolf rims and all). Oh, and a quill stem. Were those even still a thing in Y2K?

This is where I should admit that I actually already have a Lemond too. A 2005 Croix de Fer, that is pretty darn similar (853 frame/carbon fork, mostly Ultegra...but 105 brifters). But Sparkle Croix has mesmerizing paint and is more classically understated. I was worried that I'd have to face some serious grief at home for bringing back ANOTHER bike, but am instead more in love with my current Lemond. So, win!

I know what you mean, relief, but also a feeling of happiness, having made the comparison, and come up roses!
You'll find something worth taking a little heat for. I'm off to get a $100 wheeless Cadex 980 after work. Whoopee!
Cheers, Eric
PS I am a fan of the anodized Rolfs, I have blue Rolfs on my 2002 metallic blue/silver Zurich .

It feels strangely good to be understood on matters bike. Best with the wheel-less wonder!
