My son sent me these pics of a bike he picked at school. Looks to be of eighties vintage. Couple nice bits hanging on it. Said he’d bring it home over thanksgiving. Worth a rehab?

Maybe. It appears to be 1984-1987 Cilo Aelle, based on the Shimano New 600EX component group. These were nice, mid-range bicycles with a Columbus Aelle tubeset. My issue is the Unicrown fork, which was atypical for this model. The rims also appear to be mismatched. Both suggest a front end crash. It's hard to tell from the photos but I'd be weary about bent top and down tubes and/or frame misalignment. Even in the worst case scenario, the components are worth harvesting.

The downtube needs to be examined.
I agree, the frame appears older than typical for a unicrown fork.

Depends on the intended use, I will make an assumption that it will be used while on campus... if so, best to verify it tracks straight, overhaul all the mechanical bits and visually keep it flying below the radar.

That front brake cable housing at the caliper needs a furrele for example.
