Mercier bike, appraisal. Is the frame any good or trash?

It is a Mercier Prix de Cannes.
Probably from the 80's?
Is has a almost complete group Campagnolo, except for the rear derailleur. Is the group a Trioumph?
What do you think it happened to the frame?
Is the bike still safe to ride or trash?

It is marked 73 on the front superior lug and 60 on the inferior lug.

It looks like someone clamped it in a vise. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't ridden a lot of miles since the damage and it hasn't folded up on itself yet. But I'm no expert and that is all speculation on my part.

might be good to get the opinion of a framebuilder

73 and 60 markings on the head lugs refer to the angle in degrees between their tube sockets

twin dents in downtube appear cosmetic only

I agree with the possibility that the frame was clamped in a vice or a work stand of some sort (my money would be on a work stand as most vices would leave a different pattern.

Is the frame safe to use? That answer would fall into the 50-50 category or, stated differently, perhaps or perhaps not. If the frame were mine, I would not want or ride it. The cosmetics are not to my liking, because of the dents and I would never be able to ride the bike with peace of mind, being always concerned that the frame would buckle up and cause a crash.

Appraisal? For the components fitted, $150 to $200. For the frame itself - $0.00 (I just would not want it at all). But that is just me and my opinion on damaged frame sets.

Yes, I will strip the components and recycle the frame.
I paid a little for the bike, so I have no issues throwing the frame.
Thanks for all your replies.
Are the Campagnolo parts Trioumph?

I recently sold an identical bike. Same size even. IIRC I got about $250-300 for it. Your bike is ca. 1984 and Columbus Aelle tubing. The frame value is nil given the DT damage. I would part it out.

What do you want for the gruppo, I have an 84 Bordeaux that i am rebuilding that had those components. I have replied to you on another thread as well. But i am interested as well as in the fork if it is good. Yes, I painted it myself back in like 86. Imron paint and it survived the crash pretty well except the fork. Broke my arm and leg in that one. Well for some stupid reason i gave away the components to other cycle friends but kept the frame because i painted it. Well ti time to resurrect. There iss till alittle original blue paint on the fork stem that i hope to color match. I know it is not a highly regarded or valuable bike but it is too me.

The crank set and brakes levers/calipers were sold, yesterday and today.
I have the rest of the parts.
Also the fork. It looks ok, I can check it Saturday at the Bike Co-op.

The RD i need is a triomphe but i can find that. too make it simply i can buy all except the frame and crank. OH, i do not need the seat but will take the seat stem, it is better then what mine was.

This is the image they used for the front headtube decal. I have to get a friend of mine to make one for me of it. I think you and I are the only ones who have these year Merciers.

I replied you on private message.
I will look for the stem and bars tomorrow and see how long it is.
