Value Miyata 912 (1986?)

Road bike, appears to be all original except for tires, kickstand, saddle. Do not know about pedals with toe clips, whether those are original. Pink and black. 54cm.

Not the best picture for an evaluation. Howver, I see missing bar tape, head tube paint looks stressed. Likely a neglected bike. $100.

It is the 1986 version of the Nine Twelve and those do appear to be the OEM Shimano New 600EX pedals, though the visble one is missing the dust cap, so the bearings and races are likely pitted. The aero brake levers are an owner upgrade. Normally, this bicycle would be worth $250-$300 US, in very good, ready to ride condition. Unfortunately, the poor, non-drive side photo mades it diifcult to provide an objective assessment. However, based on the missing bar tape, missing pedal dust cap, poor condition brake hoods and what may be rust forming along the edge of the lower head lug, this bicycle does not appear to have received good care and I strongly suspect the value would be well below that quoted.

Thank you. I'm ordering bar tape. I want to replace the pedals with flat ones, what would you suggest? Not wanting to sell, but trying to fix it up a bit.

I'd be looking at something along the likes of an MKS GR-9 (small feet) or GR-10 (larger feet). They're a current platform model that has a mid-1980s retro appearance, with good support for soft soled shoe. They're single sided and can be fitted with toe clips and straps, if desired, However, being a body contact point, pedals are a very personal choice. What one person loves, another may hate.

I would start around $40 for something like that & see where it goes. Try to stop negotiations at $100. Don't pay more than $150.
