Team Raleigh Record
Hi Everyone,
This Raleigh Team Record (pics are attached below) is listed on the local Facebook marketplace for $175. I’d be interested to know your thoughts as to what the value may be, here in the suburbs of NYC, and whether it’s a good bike. One concern I have is regarding the Soleus derailer. My guess is it’s not original to the bike, and a cheap replacement part, right? Another is with respect to the dropout - stamped, is it? Marketing experts playing tricks? Lol I’d appreciate any information you may provide. Thank you. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...c7d081e32.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0908fd806.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...991750671.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...8e10a4a4c.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...ebf6dc1d7.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...6bc9d83c2.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9b4a9d3f2.jpeg |
You're right in saying the rear derailleur is cheap and crappy, but the rest of the bike is too. In that condition it'd be worth $20 max in my market. Not sure about NYC.

Right. Pass. Hard to see from my phone. Back home now on my PC it’s clear to see what’s going on with it. Duh. Never mind, everyone. Thanks. |

the Record model of this era was the very bottom of the range in road model cycles from the manufacturer the bicycle is a Record model done up in team racing colours, hence the Team Raleigh Record designation yes, the rear mech is a replacement and is of poor quality ----- |
juvela has it right. The Record was the least expensive, and I don't recall ever seeing a 'Team Record' - it is likely there are some aftermarket decals involved in that bike's identity.
The true 'team' level bikes from the 70s were much higher quality than the Record, or really any mass produced Raleigh - the most obvious clue is the 'claw' type derailleur hanger - the higher end Raleigh frames had built-in derailleur hangers. I believe their best bikes were made by smaller frame shops who specialized in high quality bikes and not the Raleigh low-cost production lines. Other signs pointing to a low-cost bike are the steel cottered crank, and the stem mounted shifters. |
Man, I kind of forgot about those old bike speedos, that looked best on a Stingray with the stick shift, classy!

Bike has some value over a typical paint scheme Raleigh Record.
In Southern California, probably a $100. bike. |
Trek has done a similar thing. In 2007, they made an aluminum 1000 Discovery Team replica that closely emulates the real CF racing bikes.
