Holland Cycles Titanium Breakaway

A nice gentleman pointed me in the direction of this forum to inquire on the value of my Uncles Bike (thank you Russ)

I don't know much so i posted pictures, per the sticky, to my Gallery.

I think this is a Holland Cycle titanium break away frame - custom built.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!.

King “no thread set” parts

Deore xt gears

Shimano ultegra brakes

Mavic rims

Looks like some pieces are carbon fiber also.

That poor bike

bikerdude007 12-30-21 09:03 AM

Thanks for posting the pic. Yes the bike is well used. It's travelled and seen more miles then most people have in their lives.

Looks to be a great large size ride.
Bar tape change is easy.

Bianchigirll 12-30-21 10:31 AM

Despite it being Ti I wouldn’t give more than a few hundred dollars for this as it sits. Judging from the bar tape and looks of the fork I would assume it needs a complete overhaul, along with cables, tires probably a chain and maybe cassette. What kind of bottom bract does it have? If it has some pressed fit bearing setup like early Ti bikes that is another headache for a buyer if it needs repair.

Thanks for the replies - @ Bianchigiril i think by bract you mean bracket? i took a few more pics here - also started clearing some of the tape off handle bars

Looks like a rice

Sweet ride what is the value?

SoccerBallXan 12-31-21 12:03 AM

This is an incredibly nice custom titanium bike with desirable S&S couplings for touring. Clearly, the bike's eccentric setup is the preference of whomever rode this beast for many miles. Other than a collector or a reseller, the new buyer/rider would likely want to swap many components to bits that are more personalized for touring. In regards to value, I will refrain from speculating as I don't want to provide anything misleading. If you plan on selling the bike, I feel like much of the value will depend on the part of the country you're in and what platform you plan on selling through.

yea I’d sell it as a F/F/HS, as a buyer that’s all I’d really be buying anyway.

Thanks for the replies! The current plan is to sell the bike, though I know this section of the forum isnt for that purpose.
Germany_chris - What do you mean by "F/F/HS"? thanks again!

Desirable frame for someone interested in a travelling bike in this size. Other parts that might be useful include fork and headset (frame/fork/headset). A price over $500 makes sense to me.

Very nice ride

Very good advice and if you can try before buy then for sure do some crank stomping since those pressed fits may have crank creek that may be very hard to eliminate.

Holland has a sort of cult following I think. You will get top dollar of course putting it up for all to see on eBay. There is possibly a case or bag that goes with the bike, so that when it's taken apart at the couplers and prepared for travel, it goes inside. Maybe you can find the case or bag.

himespau 01-02-22 05:50 PM

The wear on the fork would make me nervous about riding it without buying a new one. That'd drop the value (for me) down to just the frame (which I would still find interesting if it were my size). Pricing would be hard as a result.

bikerdude007 01-03-22 03:54 PM

Fantastic advice - thank you. I'll look around for the bag. Will also explore posting to Ebay.

I'll also give it a clean up and a spin to make sure everything is running smooth and if not address.

I think the suggestion was to strip it down to a bare frame, fork, and headset.

S&S Coupled bikes pop up on E-Bay from time to time.

Did you say whether you had the travel case with it? Hard case? Soft case?

For a nice titanium S&S frame, I'd expect it to go in excess of $1,000.

A fairly tall frame is good for some people, and bad for others.

I'm not sure what to say about the fork. Is that a 1" threadless? A tall order for a tall bike. Titanium does wear out, but it will also take a lot of abuse.

Whatever you do, either clean and tune the bike. New bar tape, etc???
Or strip it and sell the bare frame, and then sell the shifters separately.

I'd consider replacing the fork, but finding a good replacement will be a pain, and no sense spending $300 or so for a bike you're selling.

You could keep the fork, but I dislike getting forkless frames, and you'd get punished on the value.

Cleaned up and running, listed on ebay with good pics - Ask $1200, accept $800, as the Look fork really should be replaced. The Holland cultists might bite. Holland does titanium as well as anyone.
