1986 Schwinn High Sierra

Hi I am wondering if anyone can help me figure out the worth of well maintained and mostly original schwinn high Sierra. It has araya rims with newer Schwalbe tires. Brakes are diacompe and look original. It has shimano deore shifters and derailleurs. The paint has a few scratches but nothing major. It’s a size 21” so it fits tall riders. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I believe this may be a 1987 model, since Deore wasn't introduced until the 1987 model year. I'll defer to other members on value. Photo assist...

I would agree the Deore parts and Biopeace chainring's date it as 87/88.. Nice shape in good working order I would say $250 so in value while real nice bike late 80's and 90's higher end Schwinn MTB's just seem to get overlooked. Because of the tone of low end Walmart Schwinn branded crap sold over the last 20 years that people think of when it comes to Schwinn MTB's. Nearly identical bike branded Specialized Rockhopper would go for $400 or so.

I have a 23" 1984 High Sierra In similar original condition, but with bull moose bars - works great and has some minor chips and scratches. If it were to sell in my market, I'd be lucky to get $150 for it. Your local market prices count for everything. If you go ebay then can get more, but you have the ebay cut, shipping, and ebay customer hassles to deal with.

If you should decide to part it out I am interested in the handlebar grips as long as they are in very good condition.

@dweenk

Thank you for the offer. I am thinking of selling the whole bike together. Thank you for the help.

I had a black chrome High Sierra. It had the bottom mounted chain stay U brake, Biopace chainrings, and thumb shifters.

I rode the wheels off that sucker. Upgraded things along the way like shifters, derailleurs, handlebars, seat, etc.
I swapped the fork for a Trek DDS3 suspension fork

I'd grab another if I could. Looked like this one.
