1998 or so. See comments below.

My son left it with me so little is known other than photo
He paid $300-$350 in 1999

Probably a 1989 rather than a '99. The Centurion name transitioned into Diamondback in 1990 -- still the same company. I think $300 is an aggressive price unless somebody is 5'2" and needs a starter level road bike. But possibly a $200 bike to the right buyer

+10 Not a 1999. Assuming selling to a dealer ~= half of fair market value (or less). $50. $100 max (sold to a dealer). Finding a dealer that puts any value on an older bike can be difficult.

Agreed that it's more likely an '89; somewhere near the end I think they switched to a unicrown fork. I have an '88, which is a wonderful riding bike, especially so since it is actually my size - on paper, the late '80s Centurion LeMans is a built-to-a-price point bike with budget Shimano Exage Sport parts on a Tange no.2 main frame with Tange Mangalloy forks and stays. Someone forgot to tell mine to be humble, it feels like a much more expensive bike with fancier pedigree. Unfortunately, that doesn't translate into more $$$.

Serial number at best gives you the year. Exact year has zero bearing on value. So the serial number is essentially worthless.

One of the first things most buyers ask about is the year of the bicycle. Knowing this information helps to establish the seller's credibility. Based on the graphics and what appears to be a Shimano Exage Sport rear derailleur, this should bea 1988 model. The serial number should provide confirmation.

Yes, I always give buyers a year, but whether it is a 1987, 1988, 0r 1989, has no bearing on value. And if the age I give the buyer is off a year or two, I've never heard a complaint. I rely on component codes to estimate age of bikes I acquire.
