1984 Masi 3V Volumetrica
There is a pretty original Volumetrica near me that some one donated to the non profit bike shop. I don't have photos but the bike looks very good no dents, a few nicks on the paint job, color is beige, a thumb size surface rust on the drive size chain stay. Stickers/decals are 80% intact. it is my size. Super Record Campy, Wolber gentleman super champion rims, I think the whole bike is original. They're asking $1,200.00. Is that a fair price. I looked at the bottom bracket and it start with M not MC.

Since the bike is near to you and at a co-op go and take some photos and post them here. It will help a lot in getting informed comments.

That doesn't really sound like a great deal at a co-op. 80% decals, etc... Call the local vintage bike N-1 Support Group and get help until the urge passes.

Good that there's no dents on the frame, being that the OS tubing they used had walls that were very thin.You do have to really look closely at the visible rust though, to see if it is worse than it seems (As in if the rust is working its way from inside the frsme tubes or bigger areas under the paint..) as Volumetricas seem to be really prone to rusting really bad.I've searched for good Volumetricas for years and nine out of ten that pops up were dented and quite rusty.......

1984 should be from Italy - should have Alberto Masi signature graphic.

Yes, an early Italian 3v, which may or may not have been built at the Vigorelli (Alberto started subbing at least some of them out (and later all of them?) when demand became too great). These were Alberto's bikes, and you can see the faint outlines close to the fork crown and on the ND side of the seat tube where the "Alberto Masi" transfers were, though the fork crown itself has the "F Masi" crest.
These bike were relatively light and stiff with fast handling. IMO the price is rather high given the condition. Make sure it doesn't have dents - the tubing used was very thin, down to .4mm I believe.

Wow that is a tight front and rear wheel fit 2mm on both this would be a issue for me., Can't really put nicer tires on bike can't really ride so a wall hanger sorry, unless your hardcore enough to find a set off nice sew ups tubies for a $150 or so.

I used to consider the Masi Volumetrica a "halo" bike.. I was at awe when I first saw a frameset being sold in the 80's with its then pioneering thin walled OS steel tubing. Definitely considered a super exotic bike back then.But after many other makers started making bikes with OS steel tubing, I think it took away some of the exclusivity cachet that the Volumtrica had. That, plus the less than inspiring looking pointless lugs on the frame just doesn't seem to pique my interest, as much as it had, back in the 80's. Same goes for the graphics.I think a nice late 80's Cinelli Supercorsa can certainly give it a run for its money these days in terms of market value.

There’s a review of one in the Jan/Feb1986 Bicycle Rider magazine. The tubing is Swedish. And goes down to 0.3 mm! With Super Record parts, cost then was $1,850. Definitely not cheap.
The reviewer could ascertain no discernible difference between the 3V and other high end bikes.

I don’t mind spending good money on good bikes, but that is not one on which I would drop what is being asked.
Agree with others re potential rust issues (clues: nipples, brake hardware),so inspect carefully.
Don’t let your immediate love reaction influence what should be a (somewhat) rational purchase.
In my world, that’s an acceptable $800 bike.

wow that bike looks just like the one I’m inquiring about with ‘upgrades’ parts and stickers. Internal cable, must be newer model very nice. I however decided to pass on the one for sale. No room and I found out the drive train is not very friendly to old knees. The braze-on FD mount is not friendly to upgrade to a compact ring set.

known as the "Barcelona" model.
a run of 200, hand numbered below the Masi signature. some variation regarding fork crowns and top tube cable routing.
fun bike.
designed for 52-54 big chainrings.
for under 50, an adapter would be needed.
very Large chainstays 25 mm at the bottom bracket.
