Mid 90s M900 Cannondale
 

There is what I believe is a 1995 M900 Cannondale for sale locally. It looks to be a garage queen. The bike is being sold for $500. The Specialized Stumpjumpers and Trek 900s I've seen locally have gone for considerably less money. Bridgestone MTBs always command a premium but I've seen them locally for less than this. Do Cannondales also command a premium?

I'm a sucker for mountain bikes and I've kept my eye out for an old Cannondale. What is the FMV for this bike? The last pic is from the '95 catalog.

It's a nice C-dale, but not $500 nice.

Vintage 26er C-dales are a bit of a mixed bag. The frames are nice, and I prefer the rigid forks over any version of Headshox because there is less to go wrong - no proprietary needle bearings to replace.

Otherwise frame paint is often the first thing to go. I like them as commuters and utility bikes. Biggest drawback for today's crowd might be rim brakes instead of disc.

FMV is right around half of asking price. Modify up or down depending on your market.

As presented I would agree FMV is $250 or so you just don't see many 90's hard frame MTB's going for more and in most markets you can find nicer 90's MTB's for less.

I think the pepperoni fork is worth quite a bit alone, especially with a longer steerer as this tends to have. I'm not familiar with the resell of the coda branded parts, but I'd look those up.

In the southern California market I'd say between $300-$400 in pre Covid times (color helps). Covid times would of been higher, and post Covid, which we are in now.....not sure where the market will be come Spring.

I would tend to agree on the fork nice threadless rigid 1'8 forks are hard to come by and with nice stem headset could be worth almost more than the whole bike.

I had an M900 that I sold on Craigslist this past year. Way nicer than this one. Full XT groupset, and high end bits all around. It took me like 2 months to sell it for $300.

You didn't mention the fork it had, which size it was (larger sells better for me) and what months you had it listed. I'm also closer to Los Angeles than you which probably helps.

We are approaching Spring which should help, but we just don't know where the market is headed after Covid.

Pretty sure the M900 crankset in the OP is a 502M which far exceeds the value of a Deore XT

Nice ride. In the Milwaukee area, and admitting my like for higher-end 90's mtbs in very good condition and not really giving a hoot about disc brakes(your target audience..it only takes one..somehow folks enjoyed riding before discs appeared)...I'd say in the $375-$425 range. If someone (perhaps younger) is looking for a mountain bike, they are not looking for this bike and such a person would put little value on it. If someone were looking for a really nice, high end older mtb with premium components to bomb around on..this is a very desirable ride. In my book, a significant plus with it being an original rigid fork without the headshok.

Those cranks are hot garbage. The only reason they'd carry any value is because they all either broke, or the rings wore out.

OP asked for a value estimate, not durability.
