Is this deal too good to be true? I see them sold for $600 plus, but got this example down to $80, needing only front rim.

I'd certainly look it over very carefully before buying it.
And at that price, I'd also get the S/N and run it by the local police (and other online sources) to see if it's been reported stolen, too.

Didn't notice anything wrong with the rim, other than it was spoked radially and needs truing. Also it needs a deep cleaning. That dirt is stock on dry and doesn't come off.

This is not the one that brings $600. The $600 version is early 1980s. This is more like 200X era. $80 is about right for how it sits, assuming you have a spare wheel.
FWIW, I am seeing that era bike with Ultegra components for ~ $200, sometimes less. And of course, that would be for a complete bike with wheels, and cleaner than the one here. I saw one linger (over a month) on FB marketplace for $100, I thought about picking it up for just the nine speed Ultegra bits. I would consider that one to be a DEAL.

Ahh that sucks, it cleaned up nicely. And due to being on a smaller size, I can't ride it.

Just to close this chapter, bike got sold within a couple of days for $225. This was early April, so not bad for northeastern market. Needed enormous amount of cleaning, what ever grease used on it years ago was rock solid.
