Worth Keeping/Selling?: Vintage Columbia Tourist Bike

Not much info yet to say. Donít know age of bike (figure late Ď60s). Is this worth keeping/selling? Appears in good original condition.

Don't really know about these much, basic 3 speed BSO, probably not worth much.

I would clean and shine it up, pretty cool, complete and in good shape from here.

If you've been offered $150-$200 for this take it and be glad.

If you're thinking about paying $150-$200 for this do so only if you have a strong attraction to it and don't care if you lose $150+ if/when you try to sell it on.

These were made in Westfield MA, and are a dime a dozen around here (western MA). Iíve pulled a handful out of the trash and often see them linger on Craigslist awhile for $50 or so. They are good for harvesting 3 speed hubs and shifters though.

Nice looking old bike, in my area you would be lucky to get 40.00 for it working condition.

As in anything is possible? At $150~$200 it has to compete with everything else going for that price. On my neck of the woods you would be hard pressed to give it away. If you are lucky enough to find somebody that grew riding one in the exact same color and want to buy it for their grandchild you may get $50 but bar that person, here it would just spend moths listed at $50 with no takers.

OP; if you plan on using it then it would be worth keeping. From a value perspective even far superior bikes are not worth much.

Not a lot money for these bike in my area too. Maybe $50.00 on a good day. It might take $50.00 or more just to get it running.

Would make a nice errand/pub bike if you're into that sort of thing. I've had lots of similar bikes over the years that I've gotten for free or nearly free. Fun to fix up, ride for a while, and then pass on to the next person for free.

Or, you could donate it to your local bike co-op, kitchen, collective, etc.
Cheers,

Ask first. My local co-op is running out of space and have to turn down bikes. It is a shame but this bike has to compete with better bikes for attention. You would be hard pressed to even give it away.

I would list it on FB marketplace as a free bike. It does has a vintage charm to it. The fenders are nice.

I call those so-called mattress saddles "punishers." Definitely not good for much over a 5 mile ride.

It totally depends on your preference. If the bike is still in use then keep it otherwise sell it.
