NOS - 1997 Cannondale M500 - Is it worth $275?

Hello all,

This bike is advertised as barely used. See the photo and the catalog description. It is 18" frame and perhaps a bit too small for me (6'-3") but I like vintage MTBs from 1990s. I already have two of them. Do you think $275 is a good deal? Will that aluminum fork be brutally stiff and uncomfortable? Thank you in advance for your feedback. (Correction: this is 1996 model)

Certainly seems too small, and may have a funky steer tube/stem size, making fitting changes difficult to make. NOS and barely ridden are two different things. If it fit, and is actually almost NOS, I’d consider that an OK price but not a screaming deal or anything.

I'd love that one. Probably too small for you but condition looks very nice. I'd go for a lower cash offer...

If you plan on riding it chances are it beats whatever is selling new at the stores. From a vintage perspective there is stuff with more glamour for that price.

Thank you for the feedback. It is best if I pass this one. It is too small, and I understand that the price is not a big bargain.

It would make a great bike for my girlfriend. But too far away in Michigan.

well worth $275

sure - there have been / will be better deals (somewhere) - but visit a local bike shop and see what $300 will get you

the ride / stiffness should be a non issue - it’s a 26” wheel ATB … the tires run a typical pressure will provide adequate cushion … the fork will be no stiffer and probably less stiff than the majority of steel forks found on a typical low-to-mid-end ATB … (the worst riding forks are the stout steel forks)
