Thrift Store Peugeot ID & Value?

Pick this up yesterday at a local flea market. Don't know anything about Peugeots. Curious to it's model and value, if anyone can help, that would be great.

Others can probably spot it, but things that would really help ID this bike:

Rims: Alloy or steel; they look alloy.

Derailleurs: Brand and model; check that, the FD is a Suntour Blaze, which came out in 1989?

Looks like a late 80s/early 90s model, where info is really sketchy. This bike is one of the lower end models. Good solid bike, rebuild it yourself, make it ride ready, and it will bring a decent value, probably in the $125 to $150 around here if you are patient (assuming alloy rims).

Stem mounted shifters are a sign of a lower end model, as is the Carbolite tubing.

Would be hard to sell in current state, except at a give away price, given rusty cables and chain. This is relatively easy and cheap to rectify. Kind of typical thrift store condition.

Look up the date codes on the Suntour components on vintage Trek site. Thats your best bet.

Thanks, RD is Huret Sachs, wheels are alloy both QR. The bike is as found, so yes work is in order.

Is that front brake a "Superbe"? I am trying to read the writing, not sure.

Also, are the down tube shifters branded? And are they indexed or friction?

All, or at least most of the components will have date codes, including crank arms, brakes, derailleurs, shifters, seat post, handlebars and stem. Then you have to make a judgment on which items are more likely original. I thought the Helicomatic was more of an early 80s thing, so maybe that FD is a replacement.

After 1986, info on Peugeot is kind of hard to find. I have a 1993 PE-300 myself. But there are several Peugeot experts on this list, Miamijim should be chiming in shortly! He'll know more, a lot more.

Yes, both brakes and levers are Superbe. It has guides at both the headtube and seat post clamp for centerpull, not really sure what is original. The bartape is pure black electrical tape and the hoods are almost gone. Tires are original Peugeot branded, but need to be replaced. The shifters are Sachs and have 4083 stamped on them, not sure if indexed or friction.

Bike really sounds like a parts bin collection. Two different branded derailleurs, with a third brand for the shift levers. Another brand for the brakes, etc.

I'm guessing the bike started as a 1983 PH10S, based on decals, color, and frame material of construction.

Nothing wrong with parts bin collection by the way. I was thinking of my old 1974 U08. Someone is going to look at it someday and puzzle over the model. The only thing left original other than the frame is the FD and the hubs. Everything else was upgraded: bars, stem, seat post, rims, RD, levers, etc.

If you are not planning to keep the bike, I would be tempted to remove the Superbe brakes and replace them with something out of the parts bin. I like to keep any and all of my Superbe pieces for some future build.
