AMF Nimble -- value and age?

I found and fixed up an AMF Nimble and wonder what it might be worth. I'm guessing $50 to $75 on a good day, but don't have a real clue. This was a curbside freebie I cleaned up. A couple hours works and $12 for cables and brake pads, so I'm not too heavily invested. It's a nice looking bike and I figure it would make a good neighborhood cruiser

I don't know about the age, but guess '70s or early '80s. The bike's got a Shimano "3speed" hub and I found a thread that said hubs with that lettering were used during that time period.

I think you're right on. $50 on the high side, and maybe worth the utility value at $75.
I like those old bikes for cruising the subdivisions, and that's a nice looking one.

+1 What he said. An AMF bike will not have much interest. On the other hand, yours looks really nice, so it might get decent interest. Decent interest is anything north of $50.

No offense, but the AMF bikes were'nt "top-of-the-line". As I remember them, the rims were not well formed, and that made trueing the wheels a challenge. The seats were uncomfortable, and the overall build quality wasn't there. Nice catch for free + $12. If you were looking for something for personal use...sell it for $50 to $60, since it appears to be in very nice condition, and put the money into a better used (bargain priced) bike... a little horse trading can pay off nicely. If you like 3-speed touring bikes, a Raleigh Sports with Brooks leather saddle would be nice. If you are around 5'10"+, look for one with a 23" frame. A BF member just recently picked up one for $18...although they often go for $100+ when advertised. Thank goodness for garage sales, church rummage sales and thrift shops.

Almost forgot, the Schwinn 3-speeds were pretty nice also. The Suburban and Collegiate models might also be of interest.

This bike is definitely a flipper. I've had it on Craigslist the last few days for $75, but got no nibbles, so I'll most likely come down this weekend.

It's funny you should mention the problem truing the wheels. Although the wheels didn't wobble side to side much, they were more out of round than any I've ever encountered. It wasn't that hard to get them into shape, but who knows if they will stay that way...

I have several of the Sturmey-Archer three-speed wheels and an assortment of '70s era Schwinns that are in pieces waiting for me to get to them. One of these days...

Well, today and today only, in Tulsa, OK, the bike was worth $60 to a young lady who hadn't ridden in years and wanted something for exercise and to cruise the neighborhoods. I hope she enjoys it - and that it doesn't become a clothes rack in her bedroom.
