Nishiki Olympiad Estimate

I got this bike in trade for some golf lessons for a neighbor of mine back home. She was the original owner and took good care of it. Its 58cm from center of bb to top of st. It has Shimano shifters, SHimano "Crane" rear derailer, and steel 27" wheels. It also features a cottered crank set (bummer) and the front derailer is stamped "333". Any info on the year and how much I could get for it would help me out a great deal. The serial number stamped on the BB reads: KS124468, with a large W directly below it.

Thanks,
---

It should be late 1972. This is a rare case of of an early Nishiki bearing the old, American Eagle model name. It's really interesting to see the predecessor of the Olympic with Shimano parts. While it's rare, it's still entry level and not a true collectible. Still appears to be in great shape. Original price was $120 US in 1973. Value will depend highly on local market conditions.

You could probably get 100.00 + or - for it, considering its a mens frame and in nice shape. Considering it was 120 new that is pretty impressive.

(cough)turn the seat clamp around(cough)

Lol huh? Haha I didnt even notice, i'll get on that. Could someone please move it to inquiries? I spaced sorry. So do you guys think $200 would be a good asking price and come down from there? And what exactly makes this bike rare, the tubing, components, etc?

The thing that makes it rare is the "Olympiad" model name. I think what T-Mar is saying is that when the bikes were branded as Nishiki the model name changed to "Olympic" The tubing is probably just hi-ten steel like most entry level boom bikes.

You can start at 200.00 if you like, I doubt that you will get that but crazier things have happend. What city do you live in, that is a big factor. Everyone on Craigslist wants to haggle so it never hurts to start high. I would guess 100.00-125.00 is more likely what you will get.

As far as the seat clamp, I always used to put mine on backwards too until it was pointed out to me too .

If you want top dollar for that you should get the detailing kit out.

Cool bike, I hope it goes to a collector, but I'm guessing a hipster will pick it up for the frame.
