Univega Specialissima

I don't know much about it except it's been in a garage for at least the last 10 years.
Suntour components and Gran Compe brakes. The previous owner also made a comments about the rear rack being very rare, or valuable, but I have no idea how to ID that..
I'm really not going to be allowed to keep this one, but I wonder if I should bother trying to do any restore work on it or just clean it and sell it off to someone who will love it.
All the pics can be found at https://picasaweb.google.com/dsellinger/Univega
As a side note, Specialissima is not a searchable termon here, and that is frustrating.

use google to get decent search results:

site: bikeforums.net Specialissima

Also I think the Univega Specialissima is one of the highly sought after models--the twin sibling of the Miyata 1000.

Oh yeah, I included the Serial and I'm hoping someone can help me figure out how old this thing is.
Also if the brakes are stock or replacements. I thought they would have been canti's.

My Univega Gran Premio has SunTour cyclone components as well. If you dont mind me asking, how much did you pick it up for? I was told the $185 I paid for mine was a good deal.

heh, the best deal of all free. But I will need to sell it so I'm hoping I can get a decent race wheelset for it, via trade or sale.

Pretty greasy/dirty with a bit of light surface rust bubbling around the headtube lugs. Luckily there is very little aluminum corrosion.

The wheels are 27" 1-1/4 Araya's with sunshine hubs and QR's.

The Cyclone derailleurs may have date codes. Look for 2 letters like "UE". Then consult https://vintage-trek.com/component_dates.htm

The site also has date codes for your hubs

And looking at the pics I see an 81 on the crank. See if the derailleur and hubs confirm this date. Your seatpost may be dated on the lower hidden portion, too.

Clean, complete, and ready to ride: $250. Canti brake model would be more like $350. Need to treat rust, or deduct something from price.
