87 Centurion Iron Man Dave Scott Almost time machine condition

This is the best condition I have ever seen a vintage bike in. If I had to guess the mileage, I would say a few hundred tops. Shimano 105 everything, Wolbers, Nitto. I am pretty sure its entirely original except maybe a brown suede saddle. Tires are cracked, it has a broken toe clip, and a rust bubble on the fork about half the size of a pencil eraser. Brake hoods and bar wrap are clean, white, and supple. Less than a handfull of marks on the stay protector plate from the chain. No scratches on the paint.
I can post pics maybe tomorrow, but just imagine if you bought it new in 87, rode it a handfull of times, and kept it in your bedroom for 22 years. I just want to know what it may be worth. Thanks in advance.

Edit; 55 cm in size, add pics.

It doesn't have collectors value, so it is just an lugged steel bike that you can do what you want. It wouldn't be blasphemy to convert it, for example. And the rust bubble? That isn't a great sign. I picked up a perfect Centurion frameset for my wife for $100 delivered for use as a commuter. I wouldn't pay more than $150 - 200 for it--- and only if you really wanted it and could use the components.

rust sucks big time no matter what.

Cool find, how much stuff needs to be replaced though? Cables, tires, tubes, brake housing, all lube...
Size and color?

I think it just needs tires. The brakes are nice and smooth as are the shifters. This bike "felt" better than anything I have ever handled. Salmon and yellow colors, I have not measured it yet, but it looks like the most popular size for me to find. Too daggumm small for me

Thanks for the info guys. I will get pics up asap.

Bearings and grease in both wheels and bottom bracket almost certainly need to be replaced. They are likely 22 years old Headset may also need to be refurbed (bearings and grease). I would also replace cables, they will be rusty wherever they are exposed. This will cause them to drag. Cables are cheap. I would pull seat and look inside seat tube for rust. Enough rust and the bike will only be valued at components.

In as found condition, $100, since it doesn't fit, you need room to do repairs and parts.

Around here, in beautiful ready to ride condition, you might be able to get $250 for it.

Collectable? Maybe yes, maybe no. Desirable? Definite YES! I am not sure where the line on collectable ends, and desirable begins. This bike is at or near that line in my opinion.

The brown suede saddle might be stock, the one I recently got had a similar saddle and I'd guess the one on mine is original to the bike. I'll let the Ironman expert confirm it though.

As far as being collectible goes, there seems to be a strong following for the Dave Scott Centurion Ironman bikes.

do a full rebuild, clean and lube every bearing and replace all cables, tires/tubes, cable housings if there is any damage at all. Then shine it up spotless and take great pics.

If you post it on ebay and are willing to do a full packing/shipping job then I bet you'd get $250 + shipping.

looks like one size bigger than the one I recently got.

If mine were that size I could make it work.

With some adjustments and new bar tape and fixing the headset on mine I figure close to 200, on a good day, to the right buyer, with my added clipon aerobars, to a triathlete with a vintage appreciation, who wants a more road-like bike for rides where they don't want to take their dedicated tri-bike, on a good day.

I beg to differ. Here and there, they may go cheap, and are snapped up if they do, but the Ironman more than holds its own. Once you ride one, you know it's "not just a lugged steel bike," unless you made an error setting it up. I've paid from $97 shipped to $120 for the frame alone, and over $300 for a real beauty, and I'd do it again.

In really nice condition, they can easily bring $300, plus shipping, on ebay. I've seen them go as low as $97 shipped, and as high as $402 plus shipping. Looking at 120 bikes over about 2 years.

Don't get me started...oops, too late. That yellow/lavender bike is easily worth $250. If it was sitting right here 2 weeks ago (pre-mixte), I'd have given you $300. Then yellow tape, tires, and used Sora STI's, boom, run it with anyone.

The brown suede Turbo started life as a black suede Turbo, is OEM. Pretty phugly on most OEM Ironman bikes, but once it wears in, will hold your butt where you want it.

Any interest in selling off that frame pump? Seriously.
