Vent Noir

I have an acquaintance who may be selling an A-D Vent Noir mixte for his daughter -

I have seen it and it is a pretty impressive bike - just like the catalog photo :

What do you think the asking price ought to be?
(It is in very nice condition)

You didn't much information , but I sold a similar looking, 1986 womans, Bridgstone 200, 10 speed, with all suntour components, for $110, It to was in great condition.

Hello do you know what size it is? I can't seem to PM you for some reason.

auchencrow 12-13-09 08:20 AM

Hi SPG and thanks for responding - sorry I did not provide so much info on it, but I really did not get to examine it so closely.

- At a glance though, I could see it was full Campy (Nuovo Record, I think) and there were Reynolds 531 stickers all over the place.
The finish was a matte black-anodizing over hardened chrome (which purportedly is extremely durable, and the condition of this bike certainly supports that theory). It was a good size, and the lug-work was quite stunning, and meticulously outlined in gold.

I would have put this bike in the same league as any high-end Italian racing bike, but being a MIXTE - and being unpainted, it is very unusual - (or "odd" depending on your perspective)... It is thus very difficult for me to say whether this serves to increase, or decrease its market value.

Hi Bianchigirl !
It was hanging on a hook when I saw it, so no, I don't know the exact size - but as I recall it looked a lot like the catalog photo. ( Not all cut-down or like a low-rider, as I have seen on some girls mixte's).

I haven't cracked the code on the PM thing.

there must be something amiss in your contact settings. I would love to see some pics of the actual bike and know for the size

Sorry I have no pix.

Hard to say without pics, but if it's original (complete with Dura-Ace Black) and as nice a condition as you say, I would put it somewhere between $300-$400. The first-gen original Vent Noirs are hard to come by; a mixte Vent Noir even harder.

Thanks very much dudeona3V --
This gives me an idea where it could go. ( though I could have sworn it was campy). . .It's a little less money than I would have imagined - but on consideration, probably most people would opt for a triangular-framed Italian bike, if they had the choice and a wad of cash in their pocket.

Catalog pics do not determine value, The condition of the actual bike is everything. But regardless, if it is worth what the person is asking to you, that is all that matters.

Pretty much any mixte bike with a cromoly frame and alloy rims in ready to ride condition is worth about $200. Mixtes are a hot commodity right now.

auchencrow 12-16-09 07:08 PM

Yes indeed. Sometimes when you see a catalog picture you get your hopes up – but when you see the actual bike, you get disappointed.

- And sometimes not… (If you want to see more pictures and specs for the actual bike, go to this link:

Auchencrow, would you be able to measure a stand over height as if it had a TT? also since I can't PM you would you PM me?

I've been lurking for an AD Vent Noir or Vent Noir II for quite some time and can say that when they do appear on CL the asking price is rarely below $500 for one in good condition and they usually sell at auction on eBay for that price and more provided the condition is good and the components are pretty much intact. I'm attaching a photo sent to me by a seller who was offered--and refused $500--for the bike but was hesitant to state an asking price. This was claimed to be an Ultima SL and had full pre-CPSC Nuovo Record components.

I think it's a keeper. It's so unusual to see a VN mixte and to see one that's mostly intact (brake calipers are the only thing I see that aren't correct Black, but they are D-A so I'll let it slide) and in such nice condition (the paint is supposed to be matte, in case anyone's wondering). I would be thrilled to have one in my private reserve. Unfortunately they never made the mixtes large enough.
