That bike has been discussed here before - it appears to have an extra (too) long steer tube - why?

It was also discussed over at classic rendezvous, one potential buyer was sort of put off by the seller's answers (or lack of) to his questions, I think.

Someday I hope to get that year model Bianchi Specialissima bike in that good of condition...but for $1000.00 I hope to get the whole bike. Too much of an asking price for just the frame?? It is in fantastic condition.
I would make an offer and negotiate the pricing down. I am sure that is why he put the "make offer" on there. He knows it is a nice bike and who knows...a bidding war might even take place and drive the price up higher. I doubt it...that's a lot of mula.
I'll leave the length of the steer tube to the professionals...but I will say I personally would not buy it for the simple fact that it is in Hungary. I have a bad taste in my mouth for international sellers at the moment.
I got screwed a month or so ago by a Canadian couple and once the sale was over bad stuff started happening. The 1960's Bianchi Record was in excellent shape...but they purposely hid things in the pictures and switched some of the components. When it got here I had several surprises. I paid too much but I would've bought it anyway if he had shown the flaw in the paint in the first place. I just hate deception and international borders. The couple were jerks too ( Vintageman08 - watch out for this pair from Canada) Sorry, I don't normally like slamming people but these two were a piece of cake. Lots more to the story.
It still is a pretty and I am glad to have it.

5cagm - Please let me say I only feel that way about the people I dealt with...and do not think that way about all Canadians. I have only been to Canada twice...and actually both times were in this year - I love going there (Banff especially!) and would love to have a place there for the summer.
Still just getting over the sting of my first international purchase. You guys get some very nice bikes up there and the weather is just wonderful in the summer to ride. I am jealous!
