1983 Mountain Goat Deluxe

A friend wants to sell me his 1983 Mountain Goat Deluxe. I am not familiar at all with mountain bike prices and want to offer a fair price. Any ideas?

It retailed for $1000! Can't be much more help, though it appears they are collectible: https://www.mombat.org/Mountain_Goat.htm

What's not to like about fillet brazed ovalized tubes!

do they even make these anymore? I kind of remember them but they were few and far between.

look at all those vintage roadie parts. TA cyclotourist cranks, Doupar deraileurs, deerhead friction shifters.

This bike has the same shiny camo paint as the one on the website. It's really interesting.

ask first flight cycles in statesville, nc. They have several mtn. goat bikes among their amazing collection of vintage mtn. bikes (and road bikes!)

Offer your Merckx in trade! I can see why the Mountain Goat catches your eye. Neat bike. I'm going to guess it'll be hard to establish a fair market value.

It looks like it was slotted after brazing was completed. Pretty slick.

a bike is worth what the seller can get for it. if it's worth $100 to you and he accepts - then that's what its worth. if you offer him more or if he names a counter offer and you accept - then that's what its worth. you may not even want a MTB and he may not even want to part with it for short money. don't let the bike come between friends

Well, another friend that I told about the bike bought it for $360. We know it was worth that much at least once.

I guess you already saw this:

Somebody out there thinks it's worth more than $360.00!

I had this bike in my hands and did not buy it. A friend of mine bought it. It just sold on Ebay for $3000.

So much for asking advice here...although I did suggest you trade your Merckx...
