Raleigh Team USA Bike question

I have a 1985 Raleigh Team USA bike, good condition (7/10) with a few frame scratches, the only thing I know that is not original is the wheels. Everything else appears to be (seat, handlebars, shifters, crank, etc). Look for a price range of what the bike could be worth. There is a guy on ebay selling one for $550, I cannot imagine this is worth that especially missing my original wheels, but I am looking to sell it and not get taken advantage of. I have had the bike since 1988. Few pics posted below.

Thanks,
Steve

Steve, that's a reasonably nice bike, but the cheap steel replacement wheels absolutely kill the resale value. You can either keep your eyes peeled for an inexpensive alloy replacement set (CL, swap meet, or co-op?), or sell it to someone who wants to convert it ss/fg.

Best of luck,
Bob

1. Search completed sales on ebay, not current listings. Sellers can ask any price they want, but that does not mean they will get it. That same seller is trying to sell his bike on Craigs List, so far without success.

2. You will probably do better either selling the frameset by itself, or getting a good quality rear wheel. That nutted rear axle hub wheel is death to getting a good price on the bike.

3. Are both rims steel? If so, that will push the value down quite a bit, maybe $125 around here. With alloy rims front and rear, polished and ready to ride: $175 to $200.

Your Raleigh Team USA was a lower to middle line up in '85. It has Chro-moly main frame and hi-tensile steel fork and stays. The Team USA model was not even close to the bikes used by the Olympic team in term of materials and equipments. $200 for an excellent and ready to ride Team USA is my estimate.

other than the "bolton" flick stand I see nothing special about this bike. is it my eyes or just the photo, does the fork and rear triangle match? should they? if you look over the brochure the seller on ebay posted, it shows that is a basic bike with same "graphics" not the same equipment as the 84 olympic bikes. you could do alot better than that one for 550. it is nice looking patriotic looking bike. I would just ride it and enjoy.

OH I agree even if you want to kep this and ride it look for some inexpensive Alloy wheels. they will make you riding much more enjoyable. are these 27 or 700c?

I did look for new wheels and could not find anythig reasonable for my price range in my area.
They are 27" wheels on the bike now, I wanted to get it functional as a bike before getting it 100% correct. Still rides fine.
The flick stand was built in and a nice little feature.
I had replied to a guy looking for a Univega and was going to part with mine but we could not reach an agreed price. I mentioned I also had this one and he wanted it. I'm willing to part with it, but wanted to be fair on both sides of the deal.
Thanks for your insight.

Forgot one thing, the fork and rear triangle are not supposed to match 100%, the back triangle is a slightly darker true blue. But I do know the fork is original with the stickers.
