85 Bianchi Limited selling price?

In my opinion, this is a very nice example of a middle-of-the-road road bike from the mid 80's. I've had my fun rebuilding and riding it in all it's DT shifting glory. But, alas; it's time to pass it on, and I'm wondering what a fair asking price would be?

This Bianchi is probaby one of the first mid-level frames made back in Italian hands since the exchange rate forced them to take back frame production from the Japanese. A rather hefty Columbus Special tubing and by my eye, crudly fabricated. None-the-less, a joy to ride. Glorious Shimano 600 EX throughout.

I'm adding two photos, one taken just after I bought her because I love authenticity and everything that I've seen convinced me that this bike was the same bike that rolled out of the bike shop in 1985. The 2nd photo is the bike as it is today after I cleaned and rebuilt everything except the front hub and BB. I've added bar tape and hoods, cables, tubes & tires, and peddle straps.

I'll play!

Depends a LOT on where you live. Chicago has a pretty decent market. Here, during those first really nice weeks in April or May, I'd ask for $375 (and accept $350). You could even ask $400-425 with a straight face, though it might take a little longer to sell it. This would be with a really nicely worded ad with lots of nice photos, of course. If it's been a while, I'd go ahead and rebuild the bb and front hub, just so you can emphasize that it's 100% overhauled and ready to roll.

If your market is a little slower or if selling in the off season, $275-325 might be more realistic, if you want it to move.

Bianchis and Peugeots have a TON of cachet, and people pay top dollar for them (sometimes too much, compared to the value of other brands).

Good luck!

nice job! although I agree 450 may be a bit much in some markets, especially without index and aero levers. no columbus decal? the Forumal bikes were not too bad, considering the tubes were custom drawn for Bianchi to their specs.
