Fiori Modena?
 

Hey all,

In my on-going quest for a smaller frame for my smaller inseam, I have come across this Fiori Modena. All I know is that Fiori was a Norco import and not Italian.

Can anyone tell me if some of the components are decent? Seller is asking for $50, says it's around 27lbs.

It will be gone by the time you see this if it is on Craigs List or similar. On a small frame bike like that one, you need to be prepared to grab first, and study later.

A method I use is rather than worry about how much the bike is worth (does it really matter if it is worth $200 or $300), I focus on whether there are enough parts there to cover the price. The wheels alone are worth more than $50, so I would grab it NOW.

I grabbed a P*O*S road bike at a thrift store this morning for $25. Rather than focus on the negatives, I just looked for value. Good crankset, decent brakes, mid level Suntour derailleurs, alloy stem, quick release alloy hubs, decent pedals, decent bb, decent headset, and a good seat. That list alone is worth more than $75. So the fact that it had a crappy high ten steel frame, stem shifters, turkey levers, and steel rims, really didn't matter. FWIW, I put my hands on the bike immediately, and THEN did a quick inventory. In the thrift store world, if you do not have your hands on it, someone else can and WILL grab it. I ade my decision on the bike as soon as I saw the alloy crankset. That covered the price.

That's what I was thinking as well. I did a little research on Fiori, there isnt much info around, but apparently the Modena is a chro-mo frame and quite light.

I hope it is a private (not advertised) sale. If it is on Craigs List, around here, it would never last to the evening. Someone would scoop it up during the day for sure. If at all possible, I would take a long lunch, or do whatever and snag it NOW.

I havent seen it up on CL. They replied to a wanted post I put up. Now I'm all nervous! LOL

Buy the bloody thing. Unless they've backed over it with a car or something, it's probably worth 50$. Especially in the small frame size. At 50$ on CL here, it wouldn't even last a single hour.

There is no such thing as a $50 bike in Toronto, this is an excellent buy and I hope you get it....

Even if it is a private response to your ad (which is GOOD!), you never know if the seller will change their mind, do a little google and decide the bike is worth alot more, or whatever. Most of the private responses I have gotten came through fine. But a couple of times, the seller told a friend at work that they were going to sell the bike (to me), and suddenly, the guy at work scooped it up. When I find a great deal like this one, I get in my car and drive immediately.

Oh well, I guess others recognized more from the picture than me. I guess my $400 figure is off the charts.

If it has a Tange infinity frame with decent components, and given the extra small bike premium, it would be at least $250 around here.

No, it's not worth anything close to $400, but definitely worth more than $50. These are a pretty low-to-mid range JP import that tried way too hard to appear Italian. 27 or 28 lbs. sounds about right...the big appeal whether you keep it or flip it is the small size frame, but it's probably at best a low-grade Cro-moly (like Tange #5) or a Hi-Ten steel tubing.

Actually Fiori is a Norco brand and the bikes were assembled in Canada using Japanese frames and components. The Modena was mid entry in the lineup and this one (late 80s based on the biopace crank), will probably have Tange infinity main triangle and hi-ten stays and fork. Not sure what the components are, but they look like Exage Motion from here. Add the rack, figure in the size, and I think that this is an $150-200 bike easily.

I think mine at home has Triple butted infiniti and Exage Gruppo it rides very well and has good paint.

So I picked this up and it's great. Tripple butted cromoly frame, exage groupo components, Mavic alloy rims, kusuki winpista bars and stem, whatever those are. Needs to be cleaned up. I think taking the rack off will take another 5lbs off at least.
