Value of 'new' Miele
Thank you very much for your help. I am very interested in this bike but wonder if it is worth the $1,200 asking price. It could be a '93 or '94 Beta STI. I noticed Columbus tubing, 105 groupset, 8 rear cogs, very clean, looks like never ridden, perhaps built up from frame purchased after factory closing down. Would very much appreciate appraisals.

Not worth it around here. Also, what Columbus tubing? They have a lot of grades, from so-so, to great. With a 105 group, I am assuming it is mid grade Columbus or below. Price is way high for around here.

Don't buy this bike! The guy selling it knows exactly what we all know, that it is a $300-$400 bike and he is trying to rip you off. Even if he were to "give" you the price of $600, it is still a rip off.
Where are you located? We can probably find you a nice bike in your area...

I agree that the asking price is way over the top. But that's not the right decal for Cromor tubing, which would have the silver background and might even say "Cromor" on the decal. It's too early a label for a 90s Columbus tubeset, so if you're right about the year it may be a "replaced" decal. here's the decal chart from '88:

Thanks guys- you are an amazing knowledge base. I'm looking for a nice steel Miele or Marinoni with 105 or better STI in the K-W-Cambridge-Guelph area (near Toronto). This NOS Miele is interesting, but thanks to your input, not at $1,200. I actually don't know the year of this bike- I was only guessing based on some info from bikepedia. I have a feeling it was put together with the 105 components and a left-over frame after the factory closed down. I will have to do some more sleuthing and take some better pics. What, specifically should I look for? Your opinions so far tell me it may be worth $350-400?

Well, you should probably check the Kijiji for Kitchener every day as well as surrounding areas, something might come up. You can also check out Pinkbike.com and Canadiancylist.com as they have classifieds sections and they are less picked over compared to Kijiji or Craigslist. There is also the "Buy and Sell" forum at lcw.ca which is for London, ON. You could try a "Want to Buy" ad on Kijiji....
I bought my Battaglin in Kitchener and it was about half the price that I would have paid for it in Toronto, well worth the hour's drive.
edit: contact this guy, it might be something nice: https://kitchener.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and...AdIdZ189970455

jet is perfectly on point. finding a used bike in toronto is overpriced almost all the time. We have a few unfair players that flood our craigslist and have inflated pricing, but this has somewhat set the bar for new sellers looking to unload a bike.
other than getting some stuff off of ebay, or possibly getting something shipped to you from another part of canada, its hard to find anything nice, thats local.
just don't spend $1200 on that bike!

Thanks to you guys I saved blowing my money on that bike. I'll take my time and look around while riding my 'still ok' Shimano 600 equipped Velo Sport. The weather is gorgeous this week...
