IDing a 70s Peugot Frame

So I have been holding onto this old road frame. I am relatively certain that it is an a-08 frame, due to a lack of chrome and the cottered cranks. I am looking to build it up, and I want to make sure of what frame model it is. I would hate to ruin a Px or even a U, but if its an a-08 I dont really care about removing the cable stays in order to make it a little cleaner.

I am also going to need to replace the bottom bracket and headset, any input on that would be greatly appreciated. Right now my plan is to strip the frame down, then either clear coat over bare steel or use gun bluing agent to darken it a bit.

The frame is pretty rusted up, but It doesnt look worse than surface deep, but I would like to get some opinions on how much I should trust the forks. They feel solid but they are probably the worst condition on the entire frame.

Its an 8 series from the early to mid 60's....or as best I can tell from the pics.

If you need some better ones I can try and get them, hopefully by later tonite. Looks like Ive got some more research to do! Thanks

Ive been looking for a serial number on this frame, do you know where I should look? Its pretty rusted, how rare are these frames?

Not ver rare but not overly common. In its current condition its not worth much......
serial number is worhless.

Take better pics of the decals. Pics of frame details aren't needed. There's no question that its an entry level AO8/P8 frame due to the 'Aztec' head lugs.

Downtube Decal

Seat Tube Decals

The metalic decal on the seat tube that looks like it wasnt from the factory has a CC BL (at least thats what I can make out, its very badly weathered).

So I came up with a set up replacement parts

BB -- Velo Orange French Threaded from Harris Cyclery
Headset -- Velo Orange French Threaded from Harris Cyclery
Seat Tube -- Generic
Handlebars -- Nitto 177 (maybe 115 but I like the look of the 177 more)
Cranks -- Origen 8 w/ 46/16 (fixed)
Wheelset -- CXP22/Formula from Bicycle Wheel Wharehouse
Saddle -- Sportourer FLX

This would total close to $500, with money for the rust removal, chain, etc thrown in, which seems like a LOT to me, maybe this should be an ongoing project..

The Bottom Bracket may be salvageable but Id like to get to some square tapered cranks preferably.

Why dont you just buy one of the complete SS/FG bikes out the box? They seem to be going for less than $300 used.

$500 put into a rusty UO?

That's not even considering the cost of a decent repaint.

Yea, this build is looking like it would be better suited to a frame I know I will like. Id love to replace the ~70s motobecane mirage I had stolen from me, and if its going to cost in excess of $500 Id rather do it on that frame than this Peugeot. Plus if I got a new frame the BB/Headset/Seat Tube/Stem/Handlebars may not need to be replaced immediately.
