HIS & HERS American Eagle bikes ( Pre Nishiki )

Hi, I have a pair of His and Hers American Eagle Bicycles. I know these bikes are fairly rare as they were only made a couple of years but it also seems that there is not much of a following. That makes it that much harder to try to figure out what they may be worth. I have been a lurker here for a while but thought that this would be an interesting package to challenge some of the talented bike gurus of the site. His has a 3 - speed rear hub w/ a twist grip shifter and Hers has a 5 - speed derailleur with a stem shifter. While both need a cleaning, they both ride, shift and brake well. Hers is a "Custom Five" and His is a "Sports Flye"? I am very interested to hear your thoughts on these bikes.

Nice bikes. They look to be in pretty good condition. As for being rare, yes they are, but I'm not aware of any demand for three speed American Eagles or Nishikis. You should expect to get the standard price in your area for 3 speed bikes in good condition. Around here that's around $100 to $125. The only three speed that I'm aware of that demands more money in this area is a Raleigh.
BTW, I'm a Nishiki collector. The Nishikis that bring the $$$ are mid to higher end road bikes and the elevated stay mountain bikes.

Thanks for the feedback. They are both a little dirty but in perfect working condition. It amazes me that 40 year old bikes can ride and shift as well or better than many newer bikes. I agree with the lack of following...while they may be rare, they may be too rare to have much appreciation behind them. Rare does not always equate to value. Anyway, I can see why you collect Nishiki...they seem to be both cool and of good quality.
